(the Search function of the forum doesn't work. So I apologize if it was already asked)

Anyone ever buy refurbished laptops from Dell? I'm on a budget. This will be my first laptop. I see that refurbished laptops are affordable. So wanna see if it is good as a brand new laptop?

We'll look into the search error, thanks for reporting that.

As for the refurb, I really don't like the idea. There may be other options that are better for you. Please post a new thread in the general hardware forum that describes your needs and budget.

I totally disagree... you get the same hardware... same warranty and a better deal.

My only advice... go with the at home warranty!!!

I have to agree with Kevin here. Although I haven't had first hand experience, I have talked with a bunch of people who have bought refurbished laptops from Dell and they all had nothing but good things to say about them.

The problem is, with good coupons you can get a new machine for the same price. They just had a $500 off $1500 purchase...you'd actually do better going new in that case.

One other benefit of buying a refurb from Dell. No build time delay!!! Buy it today and have it in a day or so and not 10 days.

Keep an eye out for shipping deals and check the selection regularly.

Dell this week traded me a I-8600 refurbished for my bought new I-8500, and if this is the way they do business it will be my last, I have previously bought one in year 2000 given to out of work sister and brother in law(they both worked at the same company). Dell not only sent me the wrong manual they wouldn't even co-operate in telling me they would send the correct menu, my rep said: quote "Dell doesn't print manuals for I-8600 models anymore" un Quote, yet I seen that computer in November Computer Shopper as I am a subscriber for many years now and never read manuals for Dell products have been discontinued!

My second and last if they won't co-operate and all of my family members have the Dell computer, not for long I am the second of my family to feel it's a poorly built product next to IBM. IBM doesn't have wide screens or my first choice would have been IBM like my sister.[ :(!]

Yes, I have just 2 days ago. Hmmm[?] The Dell refurb. crashed 5 times within a 12 hr. time of owning it,,, It was a notebook.

    That's just my "refurbished" experiencel
***Also, Dell will NOT give me a warrentee on a refurbished and technically they should, even on "Refurbished"

    Best wishes,

    MOUSIE,,,grasshopper
***Let me know how it works out, I hope it works out favorably for you.
