Just skimming through eBay for the hell of it and noticed that some people are selling brand new XPS systems for $2,500 and below. However some of these are refurbished, but I was curios if anyone has purchased a Dell from eBay and if so can you buy extended warranties? Also if possible the Pros and Cons of buying one from eBay. Thanks

You can only get warranties i think if the previous owner has one. If they dont have one, you cant get one.
Just look out for there rep power and rating. There are scammers on ebay but the rep of them helps a lot. Read all the fine print to!

If you feel things are a little fishy, the community boards on eBay particularly the security and fraud one are a great resource. I have bought and sold laptops on ebay, as noted always read the item description carefully. Buying from someone with a lot of positive feedback and someone who has sold laptop in the past is a good idea. As for Pros, I feel I saved a lot of money buying on eBay and I received my laptops quickly as oppsoed to getting it from IBM or on the internet. The big Cons are there is a potential to be scammed and returns are more difficult, but if you are careful and do your homework you should be in good shape. Good Luck.

I just purchased an XPS M170 off of ebay last Friday. I'm still waiting for the system and what worries me is that I haven't heard from the seller but she does have good feedback. I'd say that if you purchase a laptop off of ebay make sure that it has a major part of the warranty left in case something goes wrong. I've read a couple places that it's possible to extend the dell warranty so I'm going to try that when the laptop comes in.

I bought my XPS Gen 2 off ebay back in may. I love it!! I called dell and had the warranty extended to 3 years with accident coverage. (which they will only offer if its with in 30 days of the ship date) I have had no problems with the laptop at all. I would buy another one in a heart beat to save the money. One word of advice. Look at the persons feed backs and past auctions. Make sure they sell items like this more than once. Have Fun!!! Passnbyu

So are you saying that dell will only extend the warranty within 30 days of the start of the initial warranty? I'm not scheduled to recieve my laptop until next Tuesday which is exactly one month after the warranty started. Any ideas on what I should do?

Well i recall with dell, when you have a warranty, you can order a new one while your previous warranty is still in use. Other words, if your warranty expired, you cant get another warranty. I think thats how there doing it.

I was looking to buy a laptop off of ebay at first. After three scam attempts, I gave up. I'd win the auction and then the guy would tell me I had to pay through Western Union.

I'm not saying that all people who sell laptops on ebay are scammers, but there are quite a few. Just don't ever pay through Western Union and make sure the seller seems legit.

I don't trust the feedback system much anymore either, those three sellers I mentioned above all had near perfect feedback.

Buying a laptop off of ebay can be done, just be VERY cautious.

Just to let you know, I finally heard back from the seller and the laptop should arrive Tuesday. The only thing I'm worried about now is the possibility of sparkles and leakage of the screen. Anyway back to your question.

    Pentium M 2.0G
    1GB DDR2 RAM
    80GB Hard drive
    built in wireless/bluetooth
    DVD writer
    6800 Ultra
    11 months left on warranty.

I bought it for just under $2000

Oh yeah, it is new (not refurbished) never been out of the box; at least that is what the ad says.
