I'm looking to get a new 1420 and noticed on Digg that you are able to get it with Ubuntu. That would be great for me since I already have a copy of Vista Business and don't need to have a copy preinstalled with the computer. One problem: the nVidia graphics are not available for the Linux 1420. I was hoping to save some money but it looks like I have to get it with Windows
I might give Dell a call just to see if I could somehow get one with Ubuntu and the 8400M GS but doubt that it would be able to happen
Is there anyone else upset that the Ubuntu 1420 cannot get the dedicated graphics?

I never used anything but Windows and I am pretty satisfied with it.
However, I understand your pain since it's something you are used to and if it came with it, you would save $100+.
I think you should give Dell a call and see what you guy can compromise on. -
I say get the 1420 and just downgrade to Vista Home Basic or whatever, you can possibly save a bit of money that way.

I would have saved $45 if it was available with the 1420 N. Cheapest Windows 1420 is $819 and $774 for Ubuntu. I'm about to do an online chat with Dell

Me: I'm just curious as to WHY the nVidia graphics aren't an option with Ubuntu?
Dell rep.: we dont have concrete info for that.
Well, thats that.
Anyone else upset about this?
