I was just wondering because I haven't seen any threads on the wait times in a while, and didn't feel like digging back to find one and resurrect it. I ordered my 1720 on July 4th and I'm still waiting for it. Estimated ship date 8/3, but still in build stage. Anyone else have a similar wait time?

Ordered 7/7 (3 days after mcs6) and my ESD is tomorrow (8/1)

But... its still in the build stage, so I am starting to steel myself for the possibility of a 2nd delay.

Ordered 7/11. Estimated ship date was yesterday, but they delayed it to 8/6.
I had no idea that blue would delay me this long.

I've already had two delays, not sure if I can hold out on a third.

ok I just got done talking to a dell rep on chat and there are currently no delays on it.
Her specs were spring green, t7300, 8400gs, 15.4" WSXGA+, 2gb ram and 3 year warranty.
So people with similar specs probably should be seeing their laptop soon.

I just talked to a Dell Rep and there is a delay on my order...the LCD Screen.

Yesterday I was told that there was not a delay. It further frustrates me because there are a couple people on this site that ordered the exact same system than me (except for the colors which there was no delay on either one) on the same day. Theirs got shipped today. So I am kinds frustrated, but I will deal with it. Especially since it is not supposed to ship until the 9th.

I'm getting the same info. Delay on the LCD screen. I knew that when I ordered it, but it has come back in stock since then. It's no longer listed as a delayed part. The CSR claims that the online ordering page is not up to date, but they are giving me more updated info. Despite this, wouldn't the fact that the Dell online order page is behind/not updated mean that at some point between when I ordered and now, that the screens came back in stock? So why didn't I receive one during that restocking period? Why am I getting re-delayed?

And it goes on, but basically ends up with them telling me to have sales modify my order. Blech. I'll try again later, see if I confirm Sneha's story...

This makes me nervous. Because I had a phone call from a dell rep call me to tell me that my order would be shipped by August 22 - and I complained that I had just talked to a rep an HOUR earlier who assured me that it would ship no later than 8/1. She pushed the August 22 date a few more times, and I remained insistant that the rep had just told me 8/1.

Finally, she said "let me check again" and came back and said "Sir, Im sorry, my mistake, you are correct, your ESD is 8/1, sorry for any inconvenience, thank you for choosing Dell, we appreciate your business" and hung up.

    So either she was
A] Trying to fish and find people willing to accept another 3 weeks of delay, or
B] Made an honest mistake and was embarassed about it (but then why did they even call me in the first place? And why did the august 22 date match yours?)

Intriguing. Man I hope they ship tomorrow.

it hasn't been delayed yet. they told me 8/2 from the beginning. i bet if i call today they'll tell me it's been delayed. i called in about...the build time being ridiculously long (next day shipping), and the $140 credit + $25 coupon is from a whole mess I had with reps about the remote, the DDR3 8600M GT, and then the reps wasting my time and repeatedly transferring me after deciding that I couldn't get what they told me I'd get (compensation-wise...finally a nice rep was like whoa k i'm going to offer you $140 credit but you can keep the $25 coupon).

if it is [a] I am going to be so pissed lol.

I ordered on July 13th, with an estimated ship of Monday, August 6th for overnight delivery on Tuesday, August 7th. I've been in build stage since the day that I ordered it. I'm not optimistic. I got the Green with glare-free screen.

i too will probably be delayed but the rep told me that i wouldnt receive any delay notice until i had passed my original est ship date of aug. 1st (ordered july 16th) blue 1720. he also recommended i talk to order support about changing out the part they were out of stock on. so i guess my question is, has anyone talked to order support and can they give more info on these out of stock parts that are holding things up. I.e. say your part A is expected to be back in stock here then we can ship it on this date?

    Here is my horror story,

I placed an order for a 1720 laptop on 7/6/2007. The order was to ship on 7/19/2007. It was then delayed & a new ship date of 7/26/2007 was given. I called customer service & they apologized & could not tell me why my order was delayed. The rep said she would upgrade the shipping to overnight. On 7/24/2007 I called customer service & asked how my order was coming along. The rep told me everything was in stock & it would ship out for sure on 7/26/2007. Then on 7/26/2007 my order did not ship & was delayed a second time with a new ship date of 8/2/2007. At this point I was very upset. The rep I spoke with on the 24th said everything was fine & my order would be shipping on time. I felt that I was lied to by that rep. I called customer service again & asked what was going on. I was informed that certain items were on back order, but "rest assured" your order will be shipping out on 8/2/2007 as promised, & I would be getting a $50 coupon for my troubles. This was not satisfactory to me but I had no choice but to accept it. Then on Saturday 7/28/2007 at 5:45pm I received an email from Dell stating that "Your order was canceled under the Federal Mail Order Rule as we were unable to get your authorization to continue the order despite the delay." I didn't see this email until Sunday morning 7/29/2007. Immediately I called the number provided in the email 800/289/3355. The rep I spoke with told me my order was canceled by my Dell Preferred Acct & that I would need to speak with them regarding the matter on Monday when they were open. I told them that there was nothing wrong with my acct & that it was in good standing & had already been charged when I placed the order on the 6th of July 3.5 weeks ago. The rep & the supervisor were very unsympathetic & did really seem to care that I waiting 3.5 weeks for a laptop that was delayed 2 times & then cancelled for no reason. They just told me I needed to call Dell Financial Monday morning. So that is what I did first thing Monday 7/30/2007. The Dell financial rep said that everything was in order on my acct & that they DID NOT cancel my order. I explained my situation to her & she then said that I need to talk with customer service & transferred me over. The customer service rep was basically useless & told me I would not be compensated in anyway & I needed to place a new order if I still wanted a laptop... At that point I had completely given up on Dells international customer service & will NEVER contact them again. They were all very polite on the phone but would just tell me what I wanted to hear weather it was true or not. Then when my order was canceled & the note said by Dell Financial (even though it was not) they were no longer nice & cheery but short & rude as if I were some kind of 3rd class citizen who cannot pay for his laptop. I ended up placing a new order with a sales rep over the phone. He was very helpful & got me the same system I had previously ordered, but was not able to give me any sort of compensation for my past order. But said he would send a report of the incident to an "escalation dept" who would look into the matter. That was yesterday. Since then I have written a lengthy email to Dell detailing this matter.

Has anyone else had their order cancelled for no reason?

I got that email on Saturday at 5:43pm & was not home to see it. I called Sunday morning at 8am when I saw the email. They need to give you some time to respond. I dont sit at my computer on a Saturday night waiting for emails from Dell. If they are going to cancel an order they need to call. Also I had allready talked to customer service on Thursday the 26th telling them I understand their is a delay & still wanted my order.

    I'm really confused now...
I ordered the same exact inspiron 1420 as my brother. Mine is pink and his is blue. I ordered mine on 7/16, he ordered his on 7/19, and he recieved his about a week ago on 7/25. (this is also confusing b/c i heard the midnight blue was backordered but my brother and boyfriend got theirs in less than 2 weeks, and both were blue). My estimated ship date is for tomorrow, 8/1, yet mine has been in build stage ever since i placed the order. I just got off the phone with dell, and the rep told me that "my computer is supposed to ship out tomorrow".. and so i asked him why it's still in build stage when i call the order status phone number, and he said that there is only one stage.. build stage. and everything including the boxing all happens in this stage. But i know for a fact that there is also testing stage and boxing stage.. so does he just not know what he's talking about? and do you think it's possible i will get my laptop on 8/2?
here are the specs of both my, and my brothers computer:

(once again, his was blue, mine is pink)
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
    2 gb
    WXGA LCD, anti glare
    160G 7200RPM hard drive
