I just placed my order for a Dell D820 w/ T7200, 512MB RAM (upgrading myself), WSXGA+ LCD, DVD-ROM, 100GB 7200rpm, NVS 120M 512MB, 9 cell, ect for $1364 before tax. I've got an HP dv2000t at the moment and while i sorta like it i think i'm going to try out a business class notebook and see if i like it more. I'm going to have to send this dv2000t back to HP anyways because i just got it last week and this morning when i was using it something happened and now when i try running off battery with the video card (Go 7200) in power saving mode the screen gets lines all over the place and it starts to flicker on and off and i get a BSOD after a while. If i keep it at maximum power though it doesn't do it. It's running fine now on AC on maximum power so i will just make due with it until i get something else in a couple of weeks and i will send this back for a refund. But anyhow, anyone else order a D820 or D620 lately? What do you think of it? Likes or dislikes?

not bad for a business class notebook, great features, don't know about the gaming capabilities on it, if that is even a concern of yours... (don't think it is)

My D620 is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I mainly liked the price--it should be solid enough for my purposes. My main concern in a bad display but I don't know if this would also affect the D820. Anyway, hopefully it isn't as bad as told in the forums...

The BSOD pops up on the Older Windows systems like Win95, 98 and maybe 2000. Computer users everywhere hate it because it usually means you computer is about to crash and you'll lose whatever you've been working on. I experience it frequently on my Win 98 laptop mainly because my CPU gets hot as hell and causes errors. I believe they did away with that in XP, or at least I have yet to experience it so I am glad aobut that. The link below is a picture of what the BSOD looks like.

BSOD's are still in XP, just not as bad as previous Windows versions. You usually see them when there is a driver or memory related issue.

I ordered the D820 in my sig. back in late July. Got it on Aug. 11.

My wife uses it for school and has no complaints.

Some have complained about the screen but she is happy with it (although for her graphic work she uses an external monitor anyway).

This is not a gaming machine though. I did run 3DMark'05 and '06 on it and got scores of, iirc, 1,996 and 696 respectively.

The GPU is supposed to be good for 3D stuff (that I would never use but my wife may use in the future).

    Build is solid.

Didn't come with much junkware (I didn't bother to reformat - I think I may have uninstalled one or two programs). I think it boots up in around 43 seconds which is pretty good given that she doesn't like to mess around with turning off the start up and services etc...

Another happy Latitude D820 user...was kinda pricey when i bought mine but u get good dell business warranty with it.. i have the wxga screen and find it perfect..any more resolution would make things too small for my tastes. To play games, you'll only have decent success if you play them at the lowest resolutions possible. You can play them above 800x600, but FPS get too low during high polygon count scenarious for my tastes. The network connetivity of the Intel internal wireless is fantastic imho..and the fact that I can achieve 7+ hours of battery life (9-cell battery + modular bay battery) is excellent. The big selling point for me on this laptop was the connectivity..it has pcmcia, PC Express Card, AND a serial data port and I needed all of those in 1 laptop.

I just ordered one as well, but have not recieved it yet. I am also curious if there are any problems associated with the D820.

I just ordered my D820 from the Dell Outlet last week, and expect to receive it early next week. Here's what I got:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 (2.16GHz) 4M L2 Cache, 667Mhz Dual Core
    Windows XP Pro
    2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)
80 GB EIDE SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    15.4 WSXGA+ Notebook Screen
512MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M TurboCache
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
9 Cell Primary Battery / 6 Cell Additional Battery
    3945 802.11a/g Wireless Mini Card
    Bluetooth Wireless Card
    Fingerprint Reader Touchpad

3 Yr Next Business Day Onsite Service

    $1,639.00

I'm pretty stoked about this laptop - even though I don't have it yet! I've been shopping for a new laptop to replace my Inspiron 5100 (another Dell outlet purchase) that has served me well for the last couple of years. I've looked at everything from HP, Compaq, Acer, ASUS - I found that I really like the look and feel of the D820 (a client of mine has one) so I trolled the Outlet until I found this configuration.

Most of the posts I've read on the forum lead me to believe I made the right decision. I think I got a great deal and I think the way this machine is built, it should meet all my requirements for another few years. Also happy to hear there is not a lot of crapware loaded on this business class machine.

I ordered my wife an e1505 and I already plan on following Souther Girls fresh format thread!
