Just wondering if anyone had the wrong DVD drive sent and if they managed too get a replacement for their Dell Laptop, or am I dang out of luck?
I ordered a blu ray drive with a dell sales rep over the phone for my XPS 1710. The invoice stated something different, and despite calling up and confirming with a somewhat shaky answer from the Dell sales rep who did not sound 100% sure, it seems the invoice was right.. I did not receive a Blu-Ray drive on my laptop.
IF anyone has been in the same situation and managed too get something similar fixed, please let me know the details. I'm not paying $2300 for a unit that has a standard DVD drive.
Thanks
Neil

I you were not charged for it than I don't think there is much you can do except call and complain.
Maybe they will sell you one at a discount. Also, it is REALLY easy to put in yourself in case you were wondering (just one screw at the bottom and the drive slides out) -
If they charged you for it you have a leg to stand on...otherwise Dell probably has the upper hand here. You might be able to argue wrong configuration but no guarantees.
-
Hmm, let me ask you this..
Our specs are as follows.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ
2 GB Memory
Geoforce 7950 card
Verizon Wireless Express card (supposed too be integrated, mistake 2)
HD 2.0 audio
and he added in LoJack and one year support.
Would that come out too 2300 for the XPS brand? We originally wanted the cheaper Inspiron 1720, but I was told they where going too be phased out soon, so he 'upgraded' us too the xps.. -
For a second, I thought you were saying they sent you a blu-ray instead of the DVD..why don't they make any screw-ups in the consumer's favor?
If it's all true mistakes, why not a couple in the other direction? -
what the 1720 will be phased out??? they were just released i dont think he knew what he was doing or he just wanted to upgrade you... the xps is a much more expensive system... so much so that it could prob be 2300 without the blue-ray
-
Wouldn't that be the kicker, 1720/1721 phased out before we all receive ours!
-
You know, that's exactly what I thought....
Sigh... so if I just got screwed over by some assanine sales guy, what's our next option?
Is there anyway I can get the price dropped down by about $300's and get the BLu-Ray drive sent out for free by contacting the Better Business Beauro(sp) or something? edit - I have t he complaint page saved just in case after a quick google search.
I don't suppose emailing the guys manager would help any, would it? -
The cheapest I can configure one for is $2698. -
With Tax and Shipping it comes out too about the same price you have. The base system was around $2300. Well, at least that confirms that. We got the system the invoice stated at the right price. But I still feel like the sales guy lied too me when he said the brand new 1720 line was going too be phased out and 'upgraded' me too the more expensive one....I could have gotten almost the same thing with a blu ray drive for around $2100....
-edit correction, the base price is $2300. The Subtotal comes too $2582 with the grand total of $2789. That's still allot for a unit without a blu drive.. -
I highly doubt the 1720 is going to be phased out ANYTIME soon...
-
I just checked their return policy. Apparently 21 days from invoice which would make it too late. Sneaky little SOB's. My sisters boyfriend who worked in tech support also says the Inspiron 1720 will not be phased out anytime soon and I definetley got lied too..
Sigh, I thought I was smarter than this..... OK folks, so what do you think the next step is? -
First, try the sales person's manager and complain to them. I think it would be a stretch for them to send you out a free drive but maybe they could sell it to you at a discounted price.
If that doesn't work, call into customer care and tell them your story. Also not sure what they will do for you if anything but you should talk to them.
How many days over 21 are you? You might press them to return the system, even after the 21 days, for the reasons that you 1) were lied to and 2) did not receive the product you thought you were ordering.
Good luck with it! Keep us posted!

You know what else I just realized?
With the graphics card being a 7900 Geoforce, it probably isn't the one needed too even run a blu-ray drive should I somehow get them too send one out for free. That one would have too be upgraded too...
Sigh...
Maybe someone at work wants too buy it at the same price..
Anyone else have this problem?
