in the system tray? It's really annoying. It's on the left side and I keep thinking that there's some invisible icon there.
-
Yeah, I don't know what it is.
-
Yes. I concluded that it somehow tries to separate the 'core' or system icons (battery, network and sound) from the additional icons. But I don't know this for sure.

Yeah, sometimes I see gaps in the tray but they go away... I don't concern myself with this sort of stuff.
-
mine has it too and I think the reason is what chuckles mentioned. -
Yeah, it must be to differentiate the core system with extra software.
-
i'm assuming this is with vista. It is separated because the icons on the right are system icons and are always present (unless you turn them off).
You can right click the taskbar, then properties -> notification area to turn off and on those icons. -

It's been widely reported (and despised), and it *IS* a known bug with the UI. They may try to fix that in SP1.
-
I personally like how there's a gap... I'd keep it like that, being able to separate system icons from application icons.
-
wow you get annoyed pretty easily!
Anyone else have an abnormal gap next to their battery status
