I have been looking at one of these 1530's for a while now and the only thing in my way is the complete incompetence on Dell's end. No matter who I talk to it seems they have absolutely no clue what I am talking about. I ask simple questions, and I get stupidly complicated answers such as: Do you have penryn processors available in Canada yet or only in the US on your XPS laptops? "Sir, we only have xeon processors on our workstations, and amd in our laptop.
I was put on hold and directed to three different people who all had equally retarded answers for even simpler questions.

Is there anyone here who has purchased from dellcanada recently and have an extension for someone who knows what they are talking about, preferably someone who can speak popper english? I have a really hard time understanding the accents many of the dell CSA's have.

I had chosen to call so I could verify some things rather than purchase the stuff though the online cart. any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Obsidian

Well I just checked the Dell Canada's site, and they don't have the Penryn CPU's yet in the 1530 or in any of them, the Penryn CPU are in the 8xxx and 9xxx series I believe, the older ones are 2xxx, 5xxx and 7xxx.

Whatever is available in Canada you will see on the website. Whatever is offered for USA usually gets offered in Canada a bit later. The Penryns just appeared on the USA site. If it was available in Canada it would be there. Is this compilicated? There really isn't any inside info to be had, and certainly not future plans on processors asked of CSRs. And probably, even if people know whats around the corner, they can't tell you until its announced officially. Or appears on the website.

Ok mabye its not entirely their fault, I must not be explaining myself clearly enough.
The reason I called them incompetent was because I couldnt even get them to confirm that they had anything higher than the t7500 available at all. none of the people I talked to were able to answer any kind of advanced questions. I asked about the penryn and they told me they only had intel cpus. when I attempted to explain what the penryn was or what the number designation was they got even more confused. Sigh!
Regardless, does anyone have an extension for a good CSR that they have delt with recently?

    Thanks

Penryn is a codename for a range of products that are not yet for sale or supported in this market. I don't think it is surprising that people haven't got a clue what they are yet. Most of the info is on the website. If there is some new big launch of a new product, there is training rolled out. But we're only talking about one component, and you're referring to it by codename. How many knew about conroe in the fronts lines, the people you speak to? Even the most technical people in the support area probably know little about penryn unless they follow outside trends, because its brand new, it just appeared on the usa site. And to many people it will be a number, replacing T7800 with some other number. It's just another core 2 duo, another wave of centrino. Try calling HP, Sony, Toshiba, etc and see if you get any better responses about plans for stuff that isn't even for sale yet. It just doesn't work that way.

I asked them a pretty simple question: How many Pin RAM is supported by the M1330. After a grueling 15 minutes in which he explained other features he finally went to Wikipedia and told me 144...

    The actual answer is 200.

Aremith, did you get the impression that you were dealing with people in Canada or overseas? Dell Canada is laying off over 900 of its call center people in Canada.

Before the Dell Canadian layoff, I'd say that 75% of my conversations with Dell were with poeple in India. With that, there was always poor phone lines with Dell India, add to that the constent misunderstandings during the conversations, I just couldn't take it anymore. I moved all of my business to the local Dell Kiosk.... Like night and day. So what does dell do.... they get rid of all the Kiosk in the states, only leaving the Canadian ones until they strike a deal with BestBuy and Staples Canada.... then the Canadian Kiosk's will go down.

Don't know if I'll ever do any 'BIG' Business with Dell again if they get rid of the Kiosk's in Canada.

    Time will tell.

I agree with several of the posters here that what you see on the Dell Canada website is basically what you can get in Canada.

However, Obsidiian, if you have further questions, you can also go to a Dell kiosk. The staff do not speak with a foreign accent and are generally pretty well-informed. I was at one yesterday and was told there were no plans to close the Canadian kiosks.

Not sure this helps since I have no idea how far you might have to go to find a Dell kiosk.
