i am looking at buying a laptop, and im sure the dell 1500 or 1700 is the right choice for me.
however, my only concerns are the weight, and maybe the looks.
would the 1700 be too heavy for me? The notebook wont ever be leaving my house, but it will be carried from room to room, and used on my lap/knee/leg alot. Would the 1700 be too heavy for this or would i be ok? Would the 1500 be too heavy for this or would i be ok?
Also, how does the laptop look in real life?

And overall which one would you recommend for me to get, as i would be using it for mainly
    dvds
    light gaming (CSS and CS)
    pictures
    msn
    school work.

thanks alot for your help. :) :) :)

if you are unable to carry 10 pounds 50 feet, then yes . . . it will be too heavy for you.

The 1700 isn't that heavy. I carry mine to college classes almost every time.

I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and have carried it to and from work a few times and I've carried it around the house. I don't think it's heavy at all. I hadn't had it on my lap until I read this post. It's there now as I type this and it's not bad in terms of weight or warmth. The only thing I find slightly annoying is the fact that the keyboard and touch-pad are off center from the monitor. Normally I keep the laptop on a table and I didn't really notice the offset. I'm sure I'll get used to it though...

I think my Vostro looks great. I prefer the black keyboard to the lighter colored ones on the Inspirons. I also like having the number pad just to the right of the keyboard. My advice is to go to a local shop and look at the difference between the 15" and 17" screens and what you can see on them. I like having the extra space of the 17" screen and I was willing to give up a little portability for the extra resolution. In the end it is a personal preference...
