I'm having reservations about buying the 1720 now after seeing it in the store. I honestly don't know if I prefer that or the Vostro 1700 black one.

Anyone been in my place and were you happy with your choice of the silver?

If you went to the store and saw the two and liked the black one more..........maybe you should cancel the order and get the Vostro.

My silver keyboard on my 1520 looks like brand new still after almost 7 months of constant use.

I hate black because it'll have a brushed or noisey grain type texture when you first get it -- then after a few weeks use it goes to a flat glossy look.

If you clean you're hands, and take care of you're machine, it'll be fine.

He also has the option of getting a silicon cover like I did. All I have to do is pull the cover off (not even pull more like take), and wash it, and I will always have clean keyboards. Good thing is that Dell uses the same size keyboard for all models, 14 in/15.4/17, so my cover for 1400 can be used on my 1500 as well.

I'm sure the Vostro keyboard is nice too, but I like the silver keyboard on my 1720.
I like the way it looks.
I like the way it feels.
I like that it matches the silver palmrest.

The silver keyboard on my parents Dell 1521 is great, still looks like new. The laptop is not that old (just over a month), however they are always typing on it. I'll let you know in a year from now how it is. :)

Yeah it is true, the back ones do become glossy, just like they did on my Sony FJ270. But I like the keyboards when they become like that because it shows a lot of usage on the keyboard but these sliver ones will make the laptop look like its new for years.

Plus, isn't it possible to replace the 1520 keyboard with a keyboard from a vostro?

Black becomes glossy like everyone has said...

I try to keep mine as new as possible but after a year just order a replacement keyboard off ebay if you don't like it.
