I'm am considering this laptop, and the choice is between i5 and i7.

I would much rather get the i7, but what concerns me is the noise. I am afraid that the i7 will consistently run hotter (clocked 200MHz higher, plus higher turbo) and thus overall noisier than the i5.

I was wondering if any of you have i7 model or even i5? And what is your experience with noise with this laptop?

    Thanks!

Which CPUs are we talking about specifically? Which laptop?

Then the difference is negligible - both are 15W ULV chips and performance will be almost identical. No sense in paying extra for the i7 considering it's only about 5-10% faster on average.

This one is on sale for $399 plus tax.

    Dell™ Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1 Laptop, 13.3" Full HD, Touchscreen, Intel® Core™ i5, 4GB Memory, 128GB Solid State Drive, Windows® 10

Any thoughts on the build quality, etc. Is it good for occassional web surfing, MS office work

Can I upgrade the SSD and RAM? I read conflicted reports about the ability to upgrade these?

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Do you reckon 10% different won't be noticeable? I actually read on some sites that the difference is around 15% in some benchmarks.

It's not going to be a factor, trust me. ULV i5s and i7s from the same generation perform identically in real world comparisons. If you are looking at games, the i7 is looking at a 2-3 fps lead at most. Both are terrible for any real work and are only really useful for word processing, spreadsheets, media consumption and music/internet browsing. If you expect games or video editing or streaming or anything even remotely demanding than both of these CPUs (7200U and 7500U) are going to be a massive disappointment.

I have the base model 13 5000. I think its plenty fast. I gave up the hello camera, and backlit screen because I really don't need either. I have used many systems and even with this low power processor its fine. I don't game, but I do edit photos and videos with this machine. Once the new ram and SSD are in, I think it will be PLENTY of speed for my usage. I also have the inspiron 11 3000 2 in 1 for my wife. it's also fine for doing the same work.

funny but I stream on my i3 6100u system and my new n3710 system no problems no dropped frames, think you better drop the idea you can't stream well cause streaming depends more on internet bandwidth
Dell outlet has some right now with i3s for 329
