I'm wanting to get one of these and wanted to know any feedback/reviews on the unit. Anybody got one in real life yet to give any indication of problems etc with this unit?

How did you guys get yours so fast? I ordered my wife's on May 2, mid-afternoon Eastern. As of right now, it is still in the boxing phase, and has been there for a couple of days now.

That's because it's being shipped from Malaysia. "Boxing" is Dell's code word for "your PC was manufactured about7 or 8 time zones away from you". :)

UPS attempted to deliver mine today, so I guess I would have been the first with one, but I was out of state for a work related conference, they are reattempting delivery tomorrow and I will be here as long as I can to get it LOL... I will be comparing it with its older Insipron 630m (XPS M140) brethren.

Funny you should mention the XPS M140 because on the Dell website the E1405 links in the middle of the page reads "See all XPS E1405 Tech Specs." I wonder if this was a typo or if Dell plans to use this model as an XPS M140 replacement also.

Since when did that matter? The XPS M140 had the integrated Intel GMA 900 (I think as the ONLY choice). I always thought that given the "high-endness" of the XPS line, that the M140 didn't really qualify. It really was more like a 14" version of the i6000. Nothing in it was truly "bleeding edge" or top-of-the-line, unlike it's 17" brethren.

That is why Dell the successor of the XPS M140 (the Inspiron E1405) where it belongs, in the "Entertainment" line of their notebook lineup LOL.

Got my E1405 at 1:40pm 5/10/06, couldn't stay on it too long, it has an AUO1272 screen, it's glossy with some sparkle.

Once I get it I'll make a thread where you can post questions about it and I'll answer them, as opposed to writing a review which would take awhile.

I'll reformat on Friday it will be in it's "out of the box" state for a day or two.

Oh yeah, my review and comparison to the 630m will be up by tonight... I only got a chance to be on the E1405 for a few minutes, but the screen is once again a matte screen with gloss smacked on it, it had light leakage, 2 dark spots toward the bottom of the screen (typical Dell it seems), but on the flip side the colors seem very vivid unlike the Samsung.

When I do my comparison tonight I am going to disable the Adobe Gamma I have been using on the Samsung screen so you can get an out of the box look at the 2 screens.

Mine was waiting for me when I got home yesterday. Unfortunately, I was tied up all evening and only got to boot it up and take a quick look. It screams compared to my 2-year-old Inspiron 9100! :)

More to come as I get a chance to really look at it tonight.

For how long was it in production?

Mine is in production since Monday... and I'm supposed to receive it on May 16th... I wonder how they'll manage to take it from Malaysia to USA and then from USA to Canada in just 3 days lol
