I recently switched from an x61t to a D630. The x61 was an amazing laptop, but I just found myself not needing such a small machine. Anyway, the x61 was my first laptop with a trackpoint, and I fell in love. It is so precise and quick on the thinkpads, and basically I never want to go back to only having the touchpad again.

With that said, I knew from reviews that the trackpoint on the Dell wouldn't be near as good as the x61, although it isn't terrible. I was wondering is there were ways to improve it, although I haven't seen any discussion on this, so I'm not too hopeful, but...

    1) I don't like the cap...not really grippy enough considering the trackpoint on the Dell requires a bit more force to get moving. Does anyone know where I could possibly get different covers? I found the cat's tongue cover to be the best on the thinkpad, so I may order something like this, but I'm not even sure this will fit the newer Dell's. Anyone know?

    2) Software. Are there any better driver's for the thing? Doubt it, but worth asking.

    3) The lack of a middle scrolling button sucks! That is a great feature on the thinkpads. You can basically do everything with one hand, without lifting your arm. But, I was wondering if there was any way to maybe map a similar scrolling/middle mouse button feature to a nearby key, say maybe the semicolon key, which is easily reached while using the stick? I realize you can press both mouse buttons, but this is tricky to do with one finger (I use index for pointer and thumb for buttons) and also is a different effect than middle mouse scrolling - it must be "clicked off" after usage.

If I could get #1 and 3 resolved it would be close enough for me. Otherwise I pretty much love the D630.
