    Hi,

I let the battery on my 1720 drain out fully a few times (too many times) and the laptop shuts down improperly. Is there a way so that when on battery and when the battery is at a critical level (say when it says 14 minutes remaining), the laptop gives a 30 second warning and starts an automatic shutdown?

    Thanks.

Settings > Control Panel > Display > Screen Saver > Power > Alarms. There should be options with which you can command the machine to shut down at a certain battery level. I think the default values are a warning at 10% and a standby at 3%. If your battery has been used to the extent that it's now poorly calibrated, you'll probably have to tweak these values.

EDIT: Oops, you have Vista; I don't know if it's the same path for Vista :(

The same concept goes for vista. The default is 3% but you can change that to whatever level you wish for.
