Hi!
Those leaked slides said that Montevina processors will be available on Studio laptops from August, and Montevina chipsets from October.

Any update on that? Approximate date, or something. I need to replace my laptop and would like to get the one a brand new chipset.
Thank you!

Interesting, I wonder if they are referring to the "P" processors.

They are indeed referring to the P9XXX processors that have popped up from Intel. These should start making their way onto Studios soon. They have a 1066 frontside bus so I'm not sure if existing studio motherboards were made with this in mind. You have to kind of hope dell was forward thinking enough to do so.
The intel chipset to go along with Montevina grade processors is definitely going to be on a new motherboard though, so I guess they will introduce those with the Studio Xps line.
I'd have to see now much difference the Montevina stuff makes to anything as I hate upgrading for the sake of upgrading. What exactly is Monevina supposed to add after all? -
All the improvements are incremental rather than substantial, so upgrading from the Santa Rosa-refresh is probably not worth it. -
I'd like Dell to upgrade my board if they release "Montevina" Studios!!!!
-
Yeah I would like them to do the same for me too, but something tells me it will cost me! Oh well, I guess it's nice that the release of the new processors will lower the prices of the current T series, meaning it's cheaper to upgrade! Yay!

Seems like false information or a fake slide. -
The slides just have terrible grammar and in no way mean the new chipset would be available 'from August'.
-
I imagine those new upgrades will be nice, but I'm happy with my Studio 17 , it runs cool as a cucumber, its got the 800 mhz FSB, and 2.1 processor whjch is fast enough for my work. I guess if you do some gaming or something like that it would show a big improvement over the current chipset, and processor but Im thinking a smaller form factor, and a cooler running unit is what the major deal is gonna be. I would have waited, but Im glad I got mine and Ive been enjoying it.

There isn't a huge difference in performance. The main advantage of P series processor is that it consumes less power (25w). Combined with montevina chipset it should run longer on battery than its predecessor.
Only someone with a new chipset(montevina) based notebook can confirm that... -
If you wanted montevina with a 17 inch laptop or 15 inch laptop there were tons of other options from other companies that didn't require you finding and replacing a board.

OK, Studio Desktop and Studio Slim desktop have been announced today.
Hopefully, refresh of Studio line with Montevina will be available soon too
