Basically, my spx1530 is set to arrive, and despite opting for less ram, because I found a way to buy dell canada laptops at employee prices, I was given a free ram upgrade to 3gb.

Anyways, this is my 2nd laptop in 3 years, and I would like to know what I should do to break it in? I plan on popping the battery out everytime I plug in just to make sure I don't kill it via heat, I only have the 6 cell because the 9 was heavier and it raised the laptop someone.

I play games, a lot and I want this thing to be tuned and ready to go for games? It's my first laptop with vista though I've been using vista on a loaner laptop.

What should I disable/enable/add to make it as fast as XP and take advantage of all the hardware I have under the hood? I opted for the t7500 4mb cache btw.

My main upgrades in the config are:

    t7500 2.0 (or was it 2.2) 4mb cache.
    3gb ram
    8600m gt

    :D

Any advice guys/gals? Sorry for being such a newbie and posting like this, but I haven't posted on a computer forum since I left my desktop.

Reformat and reinstall Vista. Do all updates. Find the topics in the Windows forum on this board and do some of the more basic tweaking. After you've tweaked it to your liking, make an image of the drive and back it up for safe keepings if you want. Then, install all your programs. Defrag the computer at least once a month.

This isn't a car, or a baseball glove where you need to break it in...Dell already did a test burn in to make sure your system is stable, but besides that there's no need to break in anything.

agreed...its not a car, there is not oil to change or any metal pieces that can be found in the motor....

plug it in and let it rip! the only thing that you may want to take it easy with is the screen....dont crank up the brightness all the way as soon as you take it out of the box.

All I did on mine was reinstall Vista to get rid of what I didn't want (which was pretty much everything). I wouldn't worry about the battery dying because of heat. I've had the laptop plugged in for about 20 hours straight and the battery wasn't even warm. In fact the only place that physically feels warm on the laptop even after hours of use is on the left palm rest right above the hard drive and under the laptop at the very front were the wireless card is. The rest of the laptop barely even heats up at all.

Dell already does that before shipping the notebook to you, so there's no need to do anything yourself.
