Calling for the hero now....
Have done google search. there are solutions for the old dell laptops. but the register tree is somewhat different in the m1330. I tried, and I can turn few control on, but cant found a fix for the stereo mix.
without the stereo mix, it is hardly to be calleda multimedia laptop at all. you will not be able to play tracks in chatroom, not able to share music with friends, and not able to making proper recording, music editing at all. had I know this before I purchase, I will think it again

However, there are drivers which enable the stereo mix. this is a choice made by Dell NOT given the mix function. The hardware completely support this function, SO DOES VISTA. Vista simply hide this function so you will not able to see it normally. Just enable one registration key in vista, you will get the stereo mix. And there are other dell laptop has been cracked (modified driver) to provide this function. For M1330 there is no fix so far.
Other brands are easier, just modify one registration key. Dell ones need more work since the dell driver futher reduces these functions.

I don't even know what this problem is. Can you describe it?
-
this laptop has no stereo mix function on its sound card.
due to driver issue I believe -
Vista does not support Direct Sound and audio mix function.
-
Theres no Stereo mix in Vista because the ass holes in Hollywood demanded Microsoft removed the feature or no deal for w.e Microsoft was after from them.
GOTTA LOVE DRM! -

A registry tweak will workaround DRM? doubt it.. but if it does fill us in..
I know for a fact all sound cards support stereo mix..
Microsoft disabled it from Vista because Hollywood thought it would stop piracy - ya right lmfao... -

these will never stop the piracy, as people in these professions can get a few equipment for few hundreds pounds to get over it. however, the normal people will suffer. It just like you will not give air to the people because theif breath on it! -
Where are these workaround drivers that you have found for other computers? Mainly a 1520???
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! -
When I said "Hollywood" I'm referring to all the movie studios..music studios etc.. We all just call it "Hollywood". And you are exactly right, these stupid cheap lame ass methods they are attempting to stop piracy, only stops the novice people and the people who actually pay for the material..
Trust me man, all of us can argue and claim how stupid their practices are and how useless they truly are. But they will never listen, they figure it's just one more way to stick it to the pricey community.
Sigh... -
Ok and after the moan now the solution: Install ASIO4ALL and use ASIO aware applications......

Here is the info I found on Wikipedia:
Windows Vista features a completely re-written audio stack. Because of the architectural changes in the redesigned audio stack, a direct path from DirectSound to the audio drivers does not exist. DirectSound and other APIs such as MME are emulated as WASAPI Session instances. DirectSound runs in emulation mode on the Microsoft software mixer. The emulator does not have hardware abstraction, so there is no hardware DirectSound acceleration, meaning hardware and software relying on DirectSound acceleration may have degraded performance. It's likely a supposed performance hit might not be noticeable, depending on the application and actual system hardware. In the case of hardware 3D audio effects played using DirectSound3D, they will not be playable.
Third-party APIs such as ASIO and OpenAL are not affected by these architectural changes in Windows Vista. A solution for applications that wish to take advantage of hardware accelerated high-quality 3D positional audio is to use OpenAL. However, this only works if the manufacturer provides an OpenAL driver for their hardware.
As of 2007, a solution to re-enable hardware acceleration of DirectSound3D and Audio Effects, such as EAX, called 'Creative ALchemy' was launched. Creative ALchemy intercepts calls to DirectSound3D and translates them into OpenAL calls to be processed by supported hardware such as Sound Blaster X-Fi and Sound Blaster Audigy. -

U don't want to use Creative, worst drivers in the industry....... (and they make you pay for bugfixes / upgrades)
