Any reason not to buy a Inspiron 15R for the folks?

Looking at a new notebook for my parents, who are in their late 60's. I'm thinking a 15R with an i3-350M and the 4 year advanced service plan. I can order it from where I am and have it shipped to them at home.

Main uses are facebook and skype.

Are there any deal-breakers I'm unaware of?

Why 4 year service plan? That's going to at least double the price ...

I don't understand that one either. That's a really pricey warranty on a low end consumer quality notebook.

I'm not about to discount the idea of having a long warranty, since the standard 3 year warranty on the E6410/E6510 is a huge selling point.

I really wonder why the poster is buying that 4 year warranty? Are the 60-something parents fairly tech savvy?

The 4 year is only $10 more than the 3 year right now on the Canadian site. I don't live in the same country as them, so I can't hold their hand whenever anything goes wrong with it. They know zero about technology, it took them four months to figure out facebook. This way, something happens, they call Dell.

Total cost with the warranty is $918, which isn't that bad.

I'd go for it, you'll definately get your moneys worth, like you said, if they have any problems they can call dell for 4 years!! Bargain!

you may look into dell outlet. I just ordered a 15r for $290 shipped from them. Same warranty that a new notebook has.
