I'm after a new laptop, was about to get a Dell Studio 15" when I realised it doesn't have a track stick/pointing stick. I am very attached to my track stick on current laptop....

Do any Dell's still come with the track stick??

My Dell Latitude E6500 comes with the trackpoint stick. I think the E6400 and the Precision M4400 do as well, among other models of the "business class" machines.

Back in the day when Inspirons were still based off of Latitude chassis and motherboards, they had trackpoints on those, too. But nowadays, as Tubby mentioned, it's only the Latitude and Precision lines. Not even the Vostros have them.

As much as I like Dell, their trackpoints aren't amazing (or it may be that I suck at using them). I'd say if you're really into the trackpoint thing, you may want to consider a ThinkPad (though I hear those aren't as good as they used to be either).

This might be a stupid question - but can anyone buy the business grade laptops for home use? Are they better or worse than the Home laptops like the Studio line?

Yes you can buy Dell business laptops for home use, just go to the small business section. Quality wise, the business laptops should be built better since they are made of magnesium alloy construction with metal hinges, and are geared to travel and heavy business use.

Yes - no special stuff required. They may ask you for a business name when ordering, but just fill it in with something, like your name. It doesn't matter.
The business models do come at a premium price over the consumer models though - primarily due to that more rugged construction and better (excellent) support.

If I'm not mistaken, some Toshiba models have a trackpoint as well. I would love if the Studio 15 had one, but honestly, I'm quite happy with mine as it is anyway.

Anyone can buy the business-grade notebooks from Dell; you don't actually have to own a business or anything like that. They are more ruggedly built than the home-oriented models, and rather less pretty; more boxy in design, but sturdier. They also tend not to have as powerful graphics options, so if you're into gaming, a business notebook is probably not what you're looking for.

Is the Studio 15 touch pad ok to use? My husband has a Dell Inspiron 17 and I can't stand his touch pad, seems to move too fast.....

You can change the settings of the touchpad in the control panel.

To Commander Wolf; I may be biased, but ThinkPads to me are still built to a very high standard. The trackpoints are still the same also.

I think it's just fine. As Dazzy0 said, you can adjust the sensitivity and acceleration of the touchpad to your liking.
