The past month and a half, my E1505 has been really terrible. It has actually been underperforming since I received it back in '06, but now, it's teetering on the edge of unbearable. I have a lot of background processes (66), but people are able to run this many processes without too much problem.
Not the case for me. It seems like almost every 45 minutes to an hour, my laptop goes under a ridiculous lag. The computer is absolutely unusable. While moving the mouse itself has an incredibly slow reaction, so do its abilities to change function (ex: moving the mouse from a regular area to a typing area, it would take a full second to recognize the new area and turn into the typing 'I' shape).
My laptop runs relatively hot and I have a lot of processes, so I always attributed it to that, old age, leaving it on almost 24/7, and just downright abuse. However, it just suddenly dawned on me today that my E1505 runs very well when not plugged in via the AC adapter. To cap things off, I've been ignoring a window on start-up stating "unable to recognize type of AC adapter" and blah blah blah.
Just wondering if this has been an issue and what I should do about it. As of right now, I'm about 65-70% sure that it's the AC adapter.

Well, I think you just answered your own question. If your warranty is still good, I'd seriously call Dell and get a replacement AC adapter.
On top of that, I'd try to see if you could reduce the number of processes and see if that helps the lag at all.
It could be, that since the AC adapter isn't being recognized, that windows is setting your laptop to low power mode. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
While the PSU may be the source of your problem, I wouldn't totally discount some power regulation issue with your motherboard as well. To answer the implied question, the 90 watt or 65 watt adapter that comes with the E1505 is essentially the same 90 watt or 60 watt adapter that comes any Dell machine and there are no known serious chronic problems with them.
Would definitely call up Dell and see what they say. If they ship you a new adapter and everything works, great. If not, it's probably bad news...
Any known problems with the E1505 AC adapter?
