This model was just released and I believe it has a different name on the Dell U.S. site. Has anyone had any first hand experience with it or any insight info. regarding this machine (other than the listed components)?

Is this the new and improved 700m? If so, the screen is still 2" larger than the 700m and this machine would more resemble the i6000.

I've been debating purchasing a 700m but have heard that there will be a replacement for it as well as this new 630m which has been released.

Ya it's called XPS M140 on the US site (not M170). If that helps.

All anyone really knows about it is that(thanks to PCMag for the review) It isn't very powerful at all! Sorry about the very few responses. I mean XPS is the gaming line, come on DELL, why would they have integrated graphics in it and still call it an XPS. It don't even have the black trim. I think they just said, well since we made it an inspiron model, lets throw the name "XPS" on it and charge a lot more money. I personally would not buy this. Get an HP or something.

    the 700 is a 12" notebook. the 630/140 is a 14" model.

integrated card now. dont be surprised if a dedicated card is available soon. dell did the same thing with the 6000.

xps does not equate to gaming line of notebooks.

Yeah, but why else would they put it in there? There is nothing special about it. It even has white trim! I think it should just be an Inspiron, im my opinion lol. Dell hasn't been pleasing too many people lately.

I went to Dell's website. When you click on GAMING it takes you to the XPS series!

an integrated card is quite suited to multimedia applications especially since it's easier on the battery and heat generation

it's incorrect to assume that XPS = gaming. XPS is an umbrella term that dell is using under which there exists a gaming model and now an "entertainment" model.

Yeah, I think they should just keep the XPS for gaming, what it was first supposed(wee you would assume) to be.

Ah I see. Well yes, from what I have read, including PCMag, this machine is 'entertainment' hub, appose to a 'gaming XPS unit'. So basically, pictures, DVDs, burning MP3 ect on this machine. But for everyday Office performance would it not be identical to the 700m? Especially if both are equiped with similar components? Or is there something I am missing? Chipset? Motherboard? HDD Manufacturer? I don't know, but other than the processor (this new machine using new Sonoma technology compared to 700m's Dothan - I don't see a difference other than size basically (the chasis of a i6000).

Will that updated processor make a huge difference? Something to do with new Windows updated OS which is comming out nextyear? I am still leaning towards the 700m just because both of these machines ARE similarily priced at the moment, similarily equiped and I would prefer the 12.1" to the 14.1" < which isn't that much smaller than the bulkier (in my opinion for everyday traveller) Inspiron 6000. IF the i630 (XPS M140) did offer something much more than the 700m, than I may sway in that direction, but this is where it stands.

Is there anything comming out replacing the 700m directly? Something with a ~ 12.1" screen perhaps? OR is THIS (XPS M140 ie] i630m) IT?

faster FSB and faster possible max CPU speed

    14" is a different notebook than a 12"

isn't there a refresh of the 700 already?

Actually ya, from what I have heard very recently, a "710m" is going to replace the 700m. I had seen pictures on a different forum website (don't worry, I wasn't posting - Im loyal to NR.com ;p). The guts of it are supposibly identical to the 700m and the only real difference is basically the chasis. The 710m won't have that white boarder (like the i6000 also has) but it will basically be a silverish all around and the speakers have now moved just below the LCD (appose to facing upwards, they now project the sound towards you, but i'm sure they will be of same quality - like usual nothing special) and the color of the actual speakers is a darker silver (almost like the color of the chasis for that Sony 13.3" one). Basically just that, i'll try to see if I can find those pics and toss the link in here.
