So far I'm pleased with my Vostro 1500 purchase, but I do notice right at the base of the LCD near the hinge, right where the silver Dell logo is located, it gets quite warm. I believe it's where the LCD inverter is located.

Is this a normal symptom for all Dells?

    Thanks...

Not all Dells. The V-1500 fan is located in on the left side corner, and that area gets hot on mine, as well. Don't worry. :)

This heat issue I'm talking about is right in the center at the base of the LCD screen. Right where the Dell logo is located.

The fan you're talking about is over to your left where the heat sink is. That's a different area.

I know the area you are talking about - right under the screen where it says D E L L. My old Latitude got extremely hot in that area but I rarely have any heat issues at that location on the Vostro, only on the left side vent and sometimes on the bottom right side underneath the vga out port.

Yeah, mine's the opposite. Cool by the left side heat sink and lukewarm underneath.

I hope I'm not going to have any LCD inverter issues because I know it's located in that area.

Sorry. I just felt mine there -- just a very slight (slightly warmer) difference in temperature on the right. What you're describing doesn't seem normal. (Sorry for the mistake ... I thought you meant the VOSTRO logo, dummy I am.)

Well I do have the 128mb Nvidia Graphics card, so I'm wondering if by nature, it generates more heat and is causing this.

I also notice that on either side of where it says DELL at the base of the LCD, it's a lot cooler. Just that one particular spot behind the logo. Weird.

My Sony or HP doesn't do that...

I have the 256mb 8600M in mine, and the only place I feel heat is near the left air vent, and that very slight heat slightly to the right of the DELL badge in the center. At present, this is only with several internet windows open. Does it happen more with graphics-intense apps, like a 3D game? If so, I can try that and see if it happens on mine.

I turned the dimmer down from 50% to 45% and that seems to have helped. It's warm now instead of hot. Still, it's weird because the notebook as a whole runs pretty cool. That's the only warm spot, unless I'm running a DVD. Then the right palm rest gets warm.

Try turning the dimmer down 5%. That seems to help.

x3. Just placed the back of my finger against it, and it actually burned. WTF is that? I've never seen that before. It's so strange ... I kept thinking you meant somewhere over the keyboard area ... I never experienced, or even heard of, a hot lcd casing before! Something isn't right here. (I took your advice and lowered the brightness a bit ... still, you shouldn't have to do that.)

My Dell logo is cool, never hot.

But My laptop gets burning hot right in the bottom back center. Like directly under the power button on the bottom. To the point where I have to take it off my lap every once and a while. I have a 128 mb card, does anyone have that problem.

You're right, it shouldn't have to be done.

Yup, right behind the silver, chrome-plated "DELL" logo that stares out at you below the LCD, right near the hinge. I discovered it by accident when I was wiping away some dust there and "ouch"! WTF was that...

By dimming it 5% through the Nvidia control panel, it went from 'too-hot-to-touch' to 'warm'.

Just borrowed a friend's Dell Inspiron 9400 (that she bought in 2006) and it too is warm in the same spot underneath the DELL logo.

Seems to be a fairly common trait for Dell laptops.
