Well I have to say I am one.

I just got my Vostro in a few days ago. The screen is the XGA anti-glare SEC. The screen is really nice. Honestly, I don't know how people can deal with those shiny screens, they reflect EVERYTHING. Light bleed seems very minimal. The keyboard is fantastic, touchpad is nice. 9 cell battery doesn't stick out much, and doesn't seem to wobble. For the price I paid, I can't imagine getting a better deal.

    Vostro 1400
    XGA screen
    Core 2 Duo T7500
    2 GB RAM
    160GB 5400RPM HD
    Vista Ultimate
    Bluetooth
    Intell Wireless
    9 cell battery
    1yr next day on site

    Total: 935 + tax

Is there a noticeable difference between the "TRUE LIFE" displays displays and the ones that don't have that?I'm considering buying a 17'' VOSTRO and from the DELL's site it seems that the VOSTROS don't have thet technology...
I wonder why the VOSTRO-s are so cheap comparing to the INSPIRONS?

I like my Vostro 1400 but I haven't tried my headphone jack so i don't kno how it sounds actually. I also have the true life screen and it is "shiny" but it doesn't bother me.

Right now i'm waiting for my hard drive replacment to come in, since it failed. But dell sending it to me with next day delivery

I am happy now but not for the first month. Finally I got all the problem solved (mostly by myself). Great value, good performance. No problem with headphone or hard drive noise. Great LCD display too. The only minor problem remains is the wobbling battery.

I want to thank all of you on here for your advice and knowlege however, after ordering three days ago, and reading more and more about the screen and other problems with vostro/inspiron models, Ive cancelled my order for the vostro this morning. I think it is a shame that these issues continue at Dell. Its like they figure sooner or later, they will have all the bad ones gone to persons who, "Settle", or the few lucky ones who get a great unit. It sounds like those few are a minority however....I'm going on the road in less than a month and cant be shipping the notebook back and forth from various addresses for repairs. Perhaps in a month or so, I will feel more confident to purchase a Dell...Bummed out here... :(

i read a lotta bum raps the dell vostros got before i finally decide to get one after seeing one in person that my cousin has got. I'm very happy with the vostro and it don't seem to exhibit any of the issues that people on this forum has.

I have the xga screen with truelife and its beautiful. Yes, it is a bit reflective, but it don't seem to bother me, it might bother some tho.

This is my very first laptop tho, so i don't have any other experiences to compare them to.

Both mine and my roommates had no light bleed, he had the WXGA+ too.

But he's returning it 'cause he has the Intel X3100 and getting a 1500 with the 8600m GT.

I had a helacious time with my 1400... 3 in a row that had bad grainy screens and assorted minor problems. 4th one is pretty good, got one tiny dead pixel which is pissing me off but other than that it's what I would think a 1400 should be...

So at this point yes I am happy with my final product, but it was way too much hassle to get here and 3 of 4 1400s I got would not have made me happy.

That's one reason I insisted on getting the next day onsite warranty for the first year. Its only $40 and a technician can come out and replace the screen as many times until you're either happy or if not you can just send it back.

I just received my Vostro 1400 on Monday and have been quite happy with it. I am coming from a Fujitsu S6240 which most would consider to be a much higher end laptop but it was time for something new and I get such a deal on my Vostro that I just couldn't turn it down. Obviously I expected some negatives coming from a $1500 laptop that weighed under 4lbs but there really weren't too many. Obviously the Vostro is thicker and heavier but I get a larger screen and better keyboard. I do wish they had made the Vostro a bit thinner but I have to say the laptop feels quite solid. We have three D630's in my office and the Vostro feels just as solid despite costing hundreds of dollars less. What really impressed me was the quality of the screen. I have the anti-glare one and it is bright and crisp with no graininess that people were reporting with other screens. I compared my Vostro to a D630 screen and the Vostro looked significantly better. Sure the viewing angles could be a bit better but I have seen much worse on laptops costing twice as much.

Overall for the price I don't think you can do much better. Of course there are somethings I don't particular like about it but they are mostly all minor. As stated before I wish they could have made it a bit thinner, I also wish they could have used a different material on the front of the case to prevent the fingerprints that are showing up like crazy, and I also wish that Dell could have made an anti-glare WXGA+ option as the reflections on my Fujitsu's glossy screen made me vow to never go that route again.

Also for those complaining about the wobbly battery fold up a sheet of paper to be about 1"x3" and using a little bit of tape attach it to the bottom of the battery. Make sure the paper is only about 4 sheets thick otherwise it won't fit back into the laptop but once you do with the wobble is gone!

I have had my 1400 for a little over 2 months now. I am very satisfied with my purchase, this is a great laptop. The worst thing I can say about it is that the battery is wobbly, but several layers of tape have solved that problem. The matte screen is perfect for me and I have not had any headphone jack noise problems at all.
