So, we are all very frustrated with the ordering/shipping of our Dell 1520's (and other models for that matter -- Dell in general I suppose?) -- and it seems to me it is folks who ordered mid-late July to present that are experiencing these issues. SO, just for some positive outlook for all of us sitting here wondering when and if we are going to get our computer -- Is there anyone who already has theirs and can elaborate on it being "worth the wait" ?? Or should there be a big cancellation of orders because the product isn't worth the wait? I am really curious at this point to know if I am waiting for something that is worth it or if I should pursue other options.

Thanks for any input on this!

According to some reviews/polls I have read, there are some who are pleased and some who aren't, just like with anything really. Apparently Dell cut a lot of corners on this one, and the errors that happened as a result are more than enough to annoy/piss you off when you're using the notebook.

I just hope mine will be ok.

I would like to add that people who ordered in early july are waiting as well. 28 days in build stage has killed that "excitement" I once had towards receiving this thing.

I don't know, I think the wait for my M1330 has made the "shipped" order status all the more sweet. I just hope there is nothing wrong with it after waiting this long. :p

    Thanks for the input --

I am sorry I left out early July! Man, this is crazy!!!

I can only really find a couple of full reviews (both of which were saying all good things.) I am hoping there is nothing wrong with mine either -- especially after the price I paid and the time I have been waiting.

I was just hoping someone who is on this discussion board could give us all some hope! haha.

And I second that on the excitement thing -- I was really really thrilled to be getting this computer but now that excitement is waning.

I am more than happy with Dell. I received fast shipping and a well built laptop. The biggest holdup in backorders (at least for the inspirons) is the color choice.
My new 1520 is one monster of a machine (in terms of power), and the size doesn't bother me.

IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT.

The problems that have been raised over the 1520 have been exaggerated.

    1) The grainy screen issue has all but disappeared since the first batch was shipped

    2) The headphone jack interference is fairly common still, but is easily avoidable by using USB or bluetooth headphones. This problem seems to be fading as more Inspirons are shipped as well.

    don't lose hope yet...

:) Ahhhh...thank you TORCH. Your config is pretty close to mine -- you have the 7200 RPM though and I have the 5400 (I believe?). Will I notice a big difference there?

I also got the anti-glare and I read on another post that this is poor in quality -- so I am hoping that, as you said, those problems have been resolved.

    Thanks again!

Whoever said the anti-glare is poor quality is being REALLY picky. They may also not have know that the notebook comes set below the native resolution, and that you have to bump it up to 1280x800.

As to the HD. If you're not a gamer, you really won't ever see a difference between the 7200RPM and the 5400RPM HD. If you are a gamer, than the 7200RPM will load things (imagine the load screens between buildings in Oblivion or at the start of BF2) about 10% faster. Its really a matter of preference, you have to decide if its worth your money (it won't effect the smoothness of game-play or other video-intensive tasks)

You should have gone with Jet Black. Almost all the colors for the Inspiron's are back-logged except for Black. Midnight blue and espresso brown are especially slow to ship.

I had my heart set on Sunshine yellow, but I knew it would delay my order, so I got the black instead. All in all, I'm satisfied. It makes the notebook very sleek, but I don't think I can do any decent laser-etching on such a dark cover. :(

I ordered a Jet Black lappy on the 1st of August and my estimated delivery date is the 29th of august. I dunno that the colour makes much difference, though I haven't been waiting that long I guess.

I ordered on July 23rd with a red 1520, it was scheduled to ship the 6th of August. Here it is the 7th, and it was reschduled to the 14th. I am not happy. I would have cancelled my order already but I still can't find another system with these specs for under $1600.

If you don't want the delay but still want the 1520, just change your color to black. It should come a little faster.
