How long should I expect before I get my laptop back? Am about to send it for what is likely a mobo replacement. DHL transport time will be 48 hours on either end. Does anyone have any experience how long it takes the facility? FWIW my IBM repair experience was less than 72 hours from out my door to return to my door...but I don't have the same expectations of Dell...meanwhile I will search dell.com to see what if anything they promise...

I sent my i6000 in last year for repair and I seem to recall it taking, including shipping time, five days.

Well...here's what happened...turnaround time less than 5 days total...I shipped it monday and it is scheduled back here via DHL tomorrow...the tech rep I asked to check status said they motherboard was replaced and all usb plug and play devices should work...we will see...

    problem described

it would have been nice NOT to have to return a brand new laptop for this repair, but if this is the typical dell repair turnaround AND they actually fixed the problem, then i will label this as a GOOD customer support experience...

well i got the e1705 back from the repair facility today. to be honest, i was p*ssed off. they replaced the motherboard but didn't update the bios, system didn't recognize hardware, etc...had to run symantec ghost restore back to original from factory configuration...

you'd think the repair depot would bother to test the repair and make sure everything worked before sending it back instead of simply slapping in whatever hardware change the tech rep in southeast asia had diagnosed over the phone...

bottom line rating of my dell repair depot experience...one star out of five

Sorry to hear about your experiences. There have been several cases where dell as well as other manufacturers totally wipe the HDD. The user doesn't realize that they will do this, and loses alot of important data.

the problem wasn't that that the depot had wiped the hard drive...if they had done that and sent it back to me in fully functional state i wouldn't have complained...what ticked me off is that it still wasn't working when i got it...in fact was working worse than when i sent it in!

i did get it to work...after diagnosing the problem on the phone with a tech rep and having to wipe the hard drive myself...i hate to say i was expecting the worst and that's what i got, but that's about it...when i send something in for warranty repair...i would like to actually have it in working order when i get it back...with dell, apparently you pay for your own aggravation...

in any case...all is well now...usb plug and play works as it should...enough of my rant...

well, the only problem I had was that one time Dell sent a technician to replace the CPU, which i could have easily done, but the technician dropped the CPU on the floor and bent the pins so I could not use it. A week without my computer. But other than that time my experience was okay but could have been better.
