I read the thread about the e1705 and trying to get media direct back after a clean os install. I ordered a e1505 with a xp mc re-installation cd. Any one with a 1505 ever had any probs after a clean media center os reinstall.

I think it is just like the E1705. All you need to leave is the 40mb partition, then do a repair of media direct. There are more specific instructions in the last post on that thread right now.

Your XP MCE disk will be from Dell, its not a Microsoft XP disk. Dell seems to have loaded its bloatware on the disc. After XP installed, it immediately went into a Dell loading sequence. There was a large flashing banner which said wait 30 minutes and do not touch the keyboard. After a minute, I opener Task Mgr, killed the banner, under the banner were standard windows loading program dialogs. The only loaded program was for ESPN, tell why Dell is loading an ESPN app?

Drivers are another issue. I got a driver CD that was for the 9300/6000 with the 915 chipset. Therefore I had to download every driver. The worst and most needed was the Truemobile 1390 driver [48MB] for wireless g and it took me 49 minutes.

As as it stands, I have a clean XP install, no more ! in Device Mgr. But I do NOT have MediaDirect.

Those features could just be the standard features for MCE. MCE does have alot of additional features on it,just by itself. I think the MCE disk is orange and should have OEM DELL on it somewhere - means it is giving you a clean install. All of the extras that were installed were from MCE, not Dell.

Like I said, i really don't know if the E1505 has media direct, but from my understanding it does. You have to repair it after you install MCE, but there are instructions on exactly what you need to do in the E1705 thread. Don't use the repair utility on the discs (that will have the older version of media direct on it which will not work), but you should be able to get it from the web.
