I am curious as to whether there is any correlation. I.e. are the graininess issues found in XGA or XGA+ only? Also, are there only certain companies that make LCD's for certain resolutions? I.e. if I order a WSXGA+, is there a greater chance that it will be a SEC LCD over a AUO LCD? I just ordered a VOSTRO 1500 with WSXGA+, and I am so freaking scared I am going to get a bad LCD.

From what I have read the WXGA and WXGA+ are both made by AUO so you MAY get AUO if you ordered either of those.
WSXGA+ I'm not too sure about, I think it's mostly lg/samsung....i could be wrong.

wxga + is the worst. SEC probably better then AUO for that resolution but some say the SEC is grainy on the wxga + as well. In my experience, the SEC was fine compared to AUO which was crap at 1440X900. If you are ordering 1440X900 then there is absolutely no guarantee you will get a good looking LCD.
I would say, there would be a greater chance of getting a grainy one then not.

But to answer your question.. yes there is a very definite correlation to resolution to LCD quality. I don't know know why manufacturers are having technical issues with wxga + but they are.. and have for quite some time. I would be interested to know why this resolution is so difficult to produce with a decent LCD quality.

But if you ordered a wsxga + I think you will be ok.. that is the one with a higher res then the 1440X900 I think. As a rule, if you drop below or above 1440X900 you will have much better screen quality. This fact has been reported over and over on these forums. If you had ordered the XGA+ then yes.. you should be sweating beads right now. :)
