I don't recall Dell being obligated to compensate you for anything. Shipping estimates are just that: estimates. Just be glad you got something at all.

i have to disagree with you. sure if our estimated ship date hasn't changed since you first decided to order your laptop then hey, you already knew what you in store for. however for the people who were a two days away from their ship date, and dell pushed back their order many times (almost a month more then the original ship date) then I do believe some sort of compensation is deserved. many people ordered their laptops for work, and expected to have them by their estimated ship date. By pushing back that ship date, you are indeed affecting how they do their job, and how their job gets done. Also many people bought it for school, and are leaving for college, (my friend is leaving the day before her laptop comes) what if dell decided to push hers back two days before she left? thats not fair

I read people saying they had courier companies going to deliever their laptops today, that would mean they would have had to have it in their possesion to say it was going to be delievered. But I do not see anyone have their laptop yet. So why the promises of being delivered.

Gawd, Dell must hate this site and all the incredibly impatient whiners that lurk here. Get a life people. It's a computer. Go out and do something other than cry about shipping dates and order status.

I want compensation! insert B!tch slap here.

A computer can be a professionnal tool for a lot of persons. And today without a computer, there are plenty of jobs which are just impossible to do.

And for some other persons, that's a lot of money; Some worked a lot to be able to buy this. I know it's just an object, but everybody has the right to decide how to get happy right? Plus computer technology is moving so fast that 1 month in a life of a laptop is quite something.

I agree with people getting angry. I was about to dish out $3500 Australian dollars when this computer came out to get it fully powered up with good spec's. That is alot of money to me, would have put me into credit card debt more than I have ever been before.

Now to tell me in some cases it will take 2 months or 7+ weeks for me to get this laptop, well that is not acceptable, and one of the main reasons I did not buy the laptop yet. Something is wrong big time. And I am not going to dish out alot of money for what right now is a big unknown.

I have bought a Dell dekstop and two Dell laptops in the past, and each turned up within 1.5 weeks.

I ordered yesterday the rep that I was dealing with told me that it would be 2 to 3 weeks at the most, I asked him a couple of times and he told me the same thing, this morning I look at the status and it shows in production but the estimated delivery time is 9/7/07 looks more than 2 to 3 weeks to me, I think they should be honest with the ETA or yes people should get some kind of compensation or an upgrade

That's only because the reps are trained to tell customers anything to get them to buy their products (and I highly doubt you'll even move into the testing/boxing stage in 3 weeks time- the whole status system is bogus because I ordered mid-July and immediately went into the build stage while there are those who ordered in June that are still in pre-production- maybe the status system was programmed to amuse people too).

I've been heavily considering a MBP though and should I cancel this, I can immediately buy and pick it up at my university since I'm still in summer school.

I still think that Dell would be better off telling people when their system will come even if it is a 2 month wait this way people know upfront the time frame and not hoping they will get their system in 3 weeks and then get mad at Dell and cancelling their order. Just my opinion but I guess it wouldn't be good business sense for the company knowing that some people will not wait for 2 months when they can go to the store and purchase one right away.

Gaaawwd, yes what is WRONG with people expecting a minimum level of service from a company to whom they sent their money instead of just bending over and taking it. I mean, how unreasonable can one be to expect an estimated shipping date to be close to the actual shipping date and then get upset when it isn't. Personally, I totally don't mind when a cable guy estimates he'll be there on Monday between 8am and 5pm and shows up on Friday at midnight instead.

Impatient whiners, eh? In the world where normal people live, they are called customers.

Yep, that's Dell, you get to build your own. It's going to take longer. Supply constraints can happen with a custom laptop, just like ordering a new car rather than buying one off the lot. You can buy 100's of laptops right off the shelf at Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, Comp USA, Walmart, etc. etc. If time is that important/critical, then a custom made is not for you. This is not a new issue. Get over it. Cancel your order and go to a B and M shop, and quit whining.

lmao I just ordered my comp today, and he ended the conversation with "Dell is not responsible for any delays or shipping problems. The date is an estimate." What a jerk lmao, there goes any hope of me getting anything free from them in the future...but Ill try quite hard still :)

And we wonder why the wait times for support are so slow. I feel sorry for those will genuine support issues. Maybe an option for the whiners-"Press the hangup button on your phone it this the 8th time you have called today asking for compensation or order status."

I just contacted Dell and told them I was less than happy that they had the use of my money for twelve weeks while I waited for my new M1330. After much hand wringing they offered me a $150 NZD credit. They also said that they had wonderful news for me; Apparently the 4 cell battery they sold me is not capable of running the Navidia graphics card so they are upgrading me to a 6 cell battery FOR FREE ! I hope it is not too bulky.

They also went on and on about how their suppliers had let them down. I was almost brought to tears.

I dont think he is posting anything untrue from his own experience HCW but rather what he was informed of...similar to ohhh....systems trickling out and EPP orders coming out last and CSRs knowing nothing and the top...they just wont give you a replacement system without their being alot of justification...

The 6 cell isn't bulky. It's about the same size as the 4 cell but the 4 cell is lighter in weight. I have a 4 cell and it runs my system with nvidia graphics just fine. It also drains really fast so it's pretty much an emergency battery only in my case.

He posted what he was told and yeah, the 4 cell runs my system but the battery life is poor - very poor. If I get an hour of web surfing on it that would be about it.

first, hcw fourholer posted what he was told. and dell will no longer configure the 4 cell battery with nvidia. i am fearing that my order is being held up since july 9 for that very same reason. you are really rude, annoying & full of bs!

as far comp, i got a free timbuk2 bag, $175 off my order, $100 coupon, free upgrade to next day shipping (if it ever ships)!
