    Hi there,

I'm VERY close to ordering a Dell m1210 today (or maybe a Sony SZ...but their support experiences on here and keyboard turn me off).

Anyway...I've configured something around $1750 that looks pretty sweet. Are there any special tricks or discounts I should be aware of to get the price down even further? Since it's their XPS line...I haven't really seen anything mentioned anywhere (besides using the Outlet).

    Thanks!
    CJ :)

Besides an epp and/or student discount there is nothing for the xps line yet.

Also, have u heard of the five finger discount? Its pretty popular and can work wonders on the end price u have to shell out.

the outlet is hit or miss i think, they seem to raise and lower the prices at what seems random to me. They had some 10% coupons running a couple weeks ago on Outlet XPS units, but they dont have that anymore.

You can also try ebay, the sellers got them (most likely) with that EPP coupon a couple months ago, and they are realizing the immediate demand for them has slowed and they cant get the big profits. I know this because if you email the sellers, almost all of them will sell it much cheaper off ebay. I personally dont like to buy items like that on ebay, but many report good results.

There is also a chance that dell will run a EPP deal a couple weeks before school, but I couldnt take waiting anymore.

Right now, on a new unit, you can use EPP and being over $1600, I think you get around $100 off that price. nothing significant though.

    Thanks guys (LOL Adinu...)

s4iscool - I agree. I emailed with someone on ebay. Looked to be very reputable (tons of positive feedback)...and a few hundred bucks cheaper than Dell...but I just feel better getting it direct from Dell, instead of "second-hand" ya know?

As for EPP...are there any tricks for using it? I own my own company - so I don't have a direct hookup with a major company at all. Although I do remember back to the good old days when Dell's phone system screwed up and rerouted my call to the wrong department...so the guy put me into the computer as a Lockheed employee (no joke...and he knew I wasn't)...and saved me about $500 bucks...lol ;)

i think you can still try to purchase it from the epp site, i put it in my cart, and I cant rememer if I ever had to enter my college id. Might be worth a shot.

the ebay thing, most of the sellers that have multiple m1210s buy them in bulk and I dont think they are even opened. They are willing to transfer the warranty to you on the dell website as well. i nearly made the deal with a seller who was even willing to open one up and check it for dead pixels..thats something dell could never really offer, but we lost the deal over $25 ;) Might still be a viable option for you...go through paypal and use your credit card, you will have full protection if you happen to get screwed by the seller and paypal.

Good point...although I like the 18 months on payments too since I qualified for that....kinda nice to not have to even think about paying for it until 2008 ;)

    Hi S4...

I just read through that post and only really saw one person who had negative things to say. I've actually used DFS before with promotional financing for a purchase and had a great experience. It's just important to make sure you're buying under the specific promotion. I haven't done it recently with Dell, but I know on Sony's page...you have to specifically select that promotion from a drop-down box. I just did the instant qualif. online and it spelled out the terms you get and don't get (I got the 18 months)...and printed it all off to have proof. That, combined, with Pre-Paid Legal should take care of any bumps in the road.

But anyway, based on my last experience with them...it was good. :)

Will do - I look forward to being able to make that post. ;)

BTW - one more thing I just realized...you get an extra 2% off when you get approved the for the preferred account. They give you a special coupon code that works when you pay with that DFS method. So it's 18 months no interest, plus another 2% off. Thought some people might want to know. :)
