I have an Inspiron 2650 that I have been using since 2002.
Today I booted it up and after it passes the bios screen it just has a blinking dash in the top right corner of the screen. It never boots to windows.
So I put in a windows xp cd and set the bios to boot from the cd drive, but it still did the same thing and just had the blinking cursor.
I've re-seated the ram, cd drive, and hard drive.

My guess is that something is failing on the motherboard. Maybe the drive controllers.

What should I do besides get a new laptop?

    Thanks

how about anew laptop. i think that is better as u laptop is like 6 years old. that was kind of coming for the laptop. a moment of silence for the laptop so it may rest in peace... :D if u have a warranty on it , u can ask dell for something or u can go and buy a new laptop. if u do choose to go the new laptop route, then please fill out the FAQ.

Have you tried the Dell Support Community forums? I've found some useful stuff there before.
