Gonna reformat/reinstall when I get my laptop. Any Dell apps that I should consider reinstalling as well? Heard Dell Media Experience (or something like that) was pretty cool. I'm assuming those apps can be reinstalled if I not using the dell recovery disk......right?

    Thanks.

You should be able to get them from Dell's site under downloads and drivers. I like Media Experience. I think it is one of the better DVD Players. I also have Dell Support, but I haven't seen anything spectacular from it yet. Then there is Dell QuickSet, which is good when you want to change your settings quickly. I have it set where the programs don't start unless I manually start them, so it saves resources.

Hey, should I refrain from formatting? cause my friends say that there are some useful things.. Anything particular that I should uninstall if I choose not to format?

It's not hot yet, but its really windy today and no rain in awhile, so now big dust storm...so much fun.

    fafan,
I would say reformat it if you feel comfortable doing so. Before you do, I would call Dell and request the OS and other CDs (3 in total). You can also use Dell's Backup utility (under start-->programs) and burn an OS disk, but it won't have the extras. I know some of dell's applications are on their website though.
If don't want to reformat it, then use add/remove programs to figure out what you don't want on there. You'll just have to scan thru and see what you don't like. Personally, I can't stand AOL, MS Works, Sonic, etc...so I always get rid of them.

I wish I could tell you which ones to get rid of, but everyone is different so you might need ones that I don't. Most of the dell applications are pretty good. If you aren't sure about some of them, post it on here and we can help you.

Hey, mind if I tag along? [ :)]

Fafan111, just as SouthernGirl said, If you are familiar with reformating and reinstalling the OS then that's the way to go.

As a matter of fact, the moment my Ins 6000D arrived, the first thing I did was to reformat the hard drive and install a korean version of the WinXP.

As for the OS, you can burn yourself a copy of WinXP from one of the utility programs that came along with the I6000. (Forgot the name but says something like Microsoft Windows XP recovery CD dunno)

As for third party programs such as PowerDVD and such I believe they came along with you in a CD.

Oh, by the way... I would suggest you to download all the hardware drivers from Dell Support website and burn them on a CD or something before you proceed with reformating.

I didn't keep any Dell software.

I like to keep things simple, and I only use a few select programs that I like. I foud all the Dell programs to be clunky and not at all useful to me.

    Dell Inspiron 9300, Pentium M 2GHz, 1GB 533MHz DDR2, 256MB nVidia GeForce Go 6800, 17" LG WUXGA+, 60GB HDD (7200rpm), Sony DW-56A DVD+-RW DL

Same here. I reinstalled my rig and got rid of much of the stuff that DELL installs for you. It really slows down the system a lot. I like how it feels now more.

    i did a reinstall too.

i got rid of most of the stuff, but i kept the quickset and the dell system software. i find that these are useful tools, and given my powerful rig, it doesn't affect performance too much.

As far as I can tell, it's for system stability. Tells XP how to use drivers etc.
