So I think I've made up my mind about the Dell Inspiron 1525. But before I order,

What are the issues surrounding the Dell Inspiron 1525? Loud fan? Excessive heat? Loose LCD hinge? Etc.

Please list anything, even the minor stuff, that is bothersome about the Dell Inspiron 1525.

    Thank you.

I haven't heard anything bad about it, though I haven't heard much of anything about it at all. Remember that it's VERY low end and only has Intel video. It's okay for desktop stuff, but if you ever want to play a game, Dell has much better systems for around the same price.

Yeah. I'm not looking for anything high-end. I only plan on doing basic things with it; no gaming, PS, encoding, etc.

I just haven't heard much about it.

Well, y'know, the general consensus is that we only hear about complaints here on the boards, so hearing nothing must be a good thing...

Then again, it's a budget machine, so buyers probably don't have too high of expectations when purchasing one. I mean, as long as it turns on and does what you want it do there's not much that can go wrong. Most people who buy these things probably couldn't care less about grainy screens or audio static (then again most people here are just paranoid to start).

Anyways, you have a Thinkpad, why downgrade to a 1525?

I'm interested in the laptop as well. The Wife needs something for basis web and office appz, and this looks to to be the perfect price.

No one has a mini- Review?

I'm not downgrading. I'm just purchasing a laptop for my girlfriend and she really dislikes fixing and configuring computers, so I'm making sure whatever I purchase will give her no problems.

I would get her a ThinkPad R61i but Lenovo doesn't finance so yea...

Have you checked Dell's forums? I scan through there from time to time, but I don't remember hearing anything about the 1525 there either. I'd guess that either it hasn't had any issues, or like Commander Wolf said, maybe people's expectations for a budget system are just lower.

Just don't spend too much on it or it would make sense to upgrade to a 1530 or 1720.

And do I get to be a Commander Wolf when I grow up? :p

Hopefully the reason is the first one. It makes sense; why would any one bother to post about an OK computer?

Anyways, thanks everyone. I think I'll place an order now.

Hey Arkit3kt, I just ordered one for my girl, I upgraded the processor and the ram and it came out around 800 bucks, and free shipping for orders above 749. Great deal from what I can see.

I'm starting to see some issues with battery charging in the 1525. Fixed one last week and another yesterday with the same problem - battery stops charging. Dell sends the customer a new battery & AC adapter. When that fails to fix the problem they dispatch a tech to replace the motherboard.

I read earlier this year on Dell's Community board of owners of 1525's complaining about touchpad issues, erratic cursor movements and problems with some of the AC adapters which were shipped out with the new units. There was a thread on the Dell board for quite sometime where owners posted their complaints and I was checking Dell's board for it last night but couldn't find it. Dell probably pulled it due to all of the bad publicity. I remember also reading comments made by owners of 1520's and Vostro 1500's experiencing similar problems. Dell sent new A.C. adapters out to some who complained, some's problems were solved, others were not.

Well Dell's killed their message boards a few weeks back. They switched to some new software, and I haven't been able to post even once since then. Today I couldn't even view the site.
