    Hi,

I am looking for a 13" I5 or I7 series laptop to replace my XPS M1210 12" laptop. Any suggestions on what to get? I am not finding anything like that on the Dell website.

    Thanks,
    Rich

Unfortunately, their 13'' home laptop line is extinct. You would have to look at their business laptops if you want a 13''. I heard some good things about the Vostro V13 an others.

So I have a choice of an alienware 11" laptop or a 14" or a vostro...

Any other options in the 12/13 inch realm?

What is your main purpose? If for gaming, then the alienware is the clear winner.

    Vostro 3300
    Vostro V13/Latitude 13
    Latitude E4310

You have three distinct choices in the Dell Small Business line.

Of course, you could wait for the Inspiron 13r, which is already on sale in Hong Kong with a standard 1GB dedicated video card.

At this point my 2ghz M1210 C2D laptop just doesnt seem fast enough. I have a SSD which I would swap into the new laptop. It is not for gaming at all but I would like something "blazing" fast & Light weight.

Its mostly for email, web. I dont think I would do much gaming at all but I do think I want a I5 or possibly an I7.

M11x is pretty comparable. Worst part is losing the dvd drive.

I'd second the E4210/E4310 especially if you don't game. Both of 'em should have Core i options unlike the V13/13 (which are the same thing). You can probably find some great deals in the Outlet if you're patient, too.

I keep trying to figure if i will notice a real difference between my current M1210 (2gz T7200 proc, 2 gigs ram, OCZ SSD) and a newer machine with a 520m processor & that same OCZ SSD.

I went to bestbuy today to look at PC's that were a bit smaller.

I think my comparison is a Inspiron 1520 that starts at 6.5 pounds & while its zippy (to me), its so heavy that it have it on my lap isnt fun.

But it feels like I can go with a Sony/Lenovo for 1700+, or an alienware 11" (but that looks like it has a scaled down I5 in it). Or just live with a 14".

The Latitude looks nice but has no HDMI (though I am not sure how important that is to me).

    DisplayPort to HDMI Cable

Problem of no HDMI is solved for $10 with a DisplayPort to HDMI Cable. I have been using one for the last year with no problems. After having a Latitude I would never look at their consumer products again.
