Does the Latitude D630 have a plug (or cover) or anything to prevent debris from entering the large port on the bottom (the one used for a docking station)? Any help with this matter would be appreciated. I am contemplating buying one, but I cannot see myself ever using a docking station, and leaving this port exposed might make the unit vulnerable.

Mine didn't come with a plug or a cover. But it's inset just a bit compared to the rest of the bottom. If your careful where you set it, you shouldnt have a problem :)

It doesn't have a cover anymore like the old D600's did, but those never worked well as a dust cover anyway. Personally, I don't think it's a deal breaker from getting the D630.

However, if the issue of dust really stresses you out, the dock assembly is recessed into the body that you can cover it up with some 3M tape.

    I agree.
Although I currently have a D620, it has no cover for the docking port.......if it realy bothers you, tape it up.

The botton on my D830 looks pretty solid; the motherboard is flush with the case, so dust might enter the connector, but it won't penetrate the case. Although dust can enter the case through the cooling fan intakes.

Obviously if you try to use the unit in a puddle, you might have issues.
