According to the DHL tracking info, my computer arrived this morning (Saturday) at a DHL facility right up the road. I called to ask if I could just pick it up rather than wait until Monday. No dice- it's DELL (not DHL) policy that DHL must attempt and fail a delivery before the computer can be picked up at a DHL facility.

    Thanks, Dell.

you gotta love that!! i'm sure dell could be persauded to let you pick it up.. but as it will take another phone call it's probably not worth the hassle

Call Dell...argue with Dell to call DHL...call DHL and find out Dell didn't bother to contact them...I'm exhausted just thinking about it! ;)

I believe you were just unfortunate to have contacted a dumb CSR. I just replied to the mail I get after we speak with a CSR asking them to call me. The lady prompty called me in a couple of hrs. I explained her the problem. She said she will place a request with DHL for me to be able to pick it up and also instruct them verbally through phone. She said she will do this and call me back in 15-20 mins. She called me back in 15 mins and confirmed that she had authorised DHL. I called DHL immediately and they said I can come and pick it up today morning at the DHL service center in my place. But unfortunately, today morning when I called DHL to find out if my package has arrived, they said they haven't got it and they will be getting it only on Monday. Not to blame them because even before I called Dell to request for an authorisation, I called DHL and they said there is a very slim chance that my laptop will arrive at the service center today itself but if I were lucky it would be here. I believe, most of the time its about getting a good CSR when we call. Its good to have all your communications with a single CSR.

Dang, that sucks :(. Yesterday when I was tracking my order (scheduled to arrive that day) it said "Failed Delivery Attempt; Recipient Not Home" even though I was waiting in my living room all day. Guess they went to the wrong house so I had to call DHL & give the driver directions too my house. Even though it wasn't before 3 PM as scheduled, I was just happy that I got it yesterday and didn't end up having to wait until Monday..

That's odd. I picked up my notebook this morning, problem-free. They said I would be charged a $15 fee, but I wasn't even charged that. I don't think DHL CSRs and the facility staff are in sync. If I were you, I'd just go there and try my luck.

Oh well- fortune favors the bold, I suppose. Probably for the best- otherwise, I wouldn't have spent a single minute of this lovely weekend outside ;)

i had the same problem with my lojack software but since a dell csr called me i explained to her that i wanted to pick up my lojack package at the hub like i did with my laptop (dhl attempted to deliver my laptop but failed, therefore they were able to hold it at the hub for me) she conference called the dhl hub and spoke with the same lady that gave me my laptop, after a few words dell authorized dhl to give me my package and i picked it up like 2 days later.
