I have read where the Montevina is suppose to be released tomorrow...what I am wondering is it even worth me waiting on it or is the Penryn ok? I know absolutely nothing about laptops, so any info is helpful.. What is going to be the main differences in the two? I tried reading about both but I am just as confused as I was before I started reading! How long will it take Dell to get the Montevina into the Studio line? I really would like to have the Studio 15 or 17, just can't make up my mind! As I stated in a post yesterday, I am going to be having a tonsillectomy in approximately 3-4 weeks and I really would like the laptop to "play" on as everyone has told me it is a severe painful surgery in adults ( I am 36) and that I will be "laid up" for quite a bit! Any suggestions please? Thanks and God Bless![/I]

I asked the same questions before I recently bought my laptop and everyone told me that unless your really going to be pushing your laptop its not going to be making much of a difference. Another thing to consider is that Montevina will be more expensive.....Guess it depends on your needs

Monteniva isn't really a huge update. It's a new platform, and as far as I know it will use less power (for longer battery life) and have support for the 9 series nVidia cards... I'm sure there's quite a bit more, but the rest is a bit obscure, I think.

I'd say you might as well buy the Studio now... I highly doubt that Dell will update the Studio in two weeks' time, and remember, they'd still have to build and deliver it to you (usually takes about a week to 10 days), so if you wait too long you still won't have it in time. And like benbeck08 said, it'll be more expensive anyway.

I'm sure the Montevina will be a killer processor. I would assume it'll be
faster and use less power. I was in the same boat as you and decided
to pull the trigger on a Studio 15 with Penryn. For the kinds of tasks
I'll be doing, I just don't see how I would need anything better. I do a
lot of Photoshop editing on my custom P4, 3.4, desktop, with 2GB of
OCZ Gold RAM, and I'll bet my new Studio will still be faster.

Good luck with your laptop decision. If the Montevinas are not that
much more expensive than Penryns, then that would be a good choice,
    I'm sure.

Hope your surgery goes well and that you have a fresh Studio to play
with. My special-order, Midnight Blue Studio is coming Wednesday,
and I am very psyched. I'll be posting some photos in the near future.

    Thanks for yalls quick answers!~

Considering when my surgery is, I reckon I may as well go ahead and order it with Penryn! I will only be using this for movies in the hotel (vacations) and web surfing, and my 14 year old will probably do a little playing on it...not a lot I know...But I do know it will come in handy when I have this surgery I am so dreading lol..Nothing like having your throat swollen up...Thanks again y'all! Hugs from Alabama

I'd recommend at least just waiting til tomorrow to see what new info comes out. It's only a day away. It's worth it to just see what Dell plans to do etc.

I've been waiting pretty long to buy my new laptop and I'm definitely going to wait for Montevina since it's so close now.
But you might not need or benefit from the new additions of Centrino 2.
Centrino 2 some improvements, but unless you're doing some serious processor intensive work, then you might not even notice the difference. In that case, just go ahead and order now.

Thanks jpzsports! I will just wait and see what tomorrow holds and go from there! If it doesn't appear that it will benefit me or be ready when I need it I will just simply order the penryn!
