I have seen several people say the display makes icons and text quite small and hard on the eyes. If that's the case, can't you just lower the resolution to something like the 1440 x 900 pixels of the WXGA+? I actually have pretty good eyes but I can't figure out which screen I want to get. The XPS at the mall kiosk had the Truelife screen but it wasn't even set to a widescreen resolution and the employee there was clueless so he wouldn't change to the max resolution. I couldn't figure out how to do it either because the display unit had very limited access. I've never had a problem with LCDs but then people say the colors are amazing on the TrueLife (and I will be gaming).

I run everything at 1680x1050, and it looks fine. I just think of my 1680x1050 as a 800x600 when the 1920x1200 is compared to a 1024x768.

i have the wuxga on the 6000 (15.4" screen versus the 17" xps). i love it. to me the text and icons are perfect and not too small. HOWEVER, it really is a personal preference.

if you run the notebook at a resolution outside of the native resolution (i.e, change to wxga+ on a wuxga LCD), you will get some fuzziness.

you're best bet is to get to a computer store where you can compare the resolutions for yourself and then make a decision.

A 10-15% drop in resolution is ok though. I have no fuzziness with 1680x1050.

Also dell configures the system at a higher DPI so everything Icons/Text looks bigger (though a worse solution to simply changing resolution down to say USXGA+)

I read over in the Sager thread that the WUXGA is a very bad idea for gamers...that the high resolution not only looks bad but even stresses the 7800 GTX. It looks like I'll just go with the WSXGA in that case.

    Depends on the game certainly.

    F.E.A.R. it does certainly
Half Life 2, Quake 4, Doom 3, Far Cry, NFS:MW all run fine at native or 1600x1200 (non-widescreen)

So why is it different for FEAR? Can it not run at 1600x1200?

Do those other games have to be played at 1600x1200 for best image quality/performance.

Sorry for playing 20 questions, I just don't want to get the WUXGA and then be unhappy to learn I can't play in widescreen or it slows me down or something.

Fear simply does not run acceptably at maximum resolutin.
