Just received my upgrade disc's, I dont want to get rid of the old recovery partition, or the Dell diagnostic partition, or media direct, So I can just pop in the CD and click upgrade and it wont delete any of my files right?

Supposedly, that should work fine. Might have to reinstall some programs in order for them to run correctly though. Make sure you have all the Vista drivers handy as well. As far the recovery partition... it shouldn't be touched by Vista, unless you tell it to format the partition or delete it.

Be careful and take it slow! lol

Well that’s pretty much what I did. Inserted the Dell Vista upgrade DVD first, then it will prompt you to insert the Vista OS DVD next.

My upgrade went fairly smoothly until the very end where I ended up with a BSOD. I forgot to disable Kerio personal firewall before I started the process. I had to go back to the last good OS configuration and start over again. The second attempt went as smooth as butter and found Vista had most of my drivers.

Again, as most people know be warned that Vista is not compatible with allot of your older stuff that you really liked in XP. Any incompatible files/programs etc items will be removed during the upgrade assistant DVD process.

Once I played around with Vista for a bit I decided to do a clean install and left those other partitions alone for now.

So basically I’ve clean installed Vista on the C drive partition where XP MCE used to be and left the other partitions alone in case I want to go back to XP MCE in the future.

I’ve had Vista on my system for about 3 weeks now.
