Hey all... newbie here beating the dead horse over and over again!!!

From the info I have gathered... this unit runs roughly 4 hours on battery with full wi-fi going.

    Now my Q's.
    1. Battery time running a DVD?
    2. Does it getting annonyling hot on your lap?
    3. SXGA VS. UXGA. I'm looking for a very clean, crips clean... is UXGA the way to go??? (I'm planning to only get the 64mb video Card)

This WILL NOT be a primary gaming machine... Mainly looking at pics and playing DVD's.

Would you recommend this machine over the 600M or even something like the Toshiba S349 or Gateway 4530?

Thanks in advance for all answers!

I usually get 3 hrs 15 min when using a DVD.
For me, the system gets very hot where the memory is, but I use 1 GB of RAM.
I personally like the SXGA screen because the UXGA fonts are too small for me. This is a matter of personal appearance. I think both are crisp and clean, with the UXGA slightly sharper.

If you want more portability the 600m would be better. If you want more of a desktop replacement that can be carried around occasionally, go with the 8600.

    Hope that helps.

I have an 8600 with sxga screen and my wife has a 600m with sxga screen. We ordered them at the same time about a month ago. The sxga screen is perfect in both out opinions. Mine is widescreen. When we head off to work the 600m is definitely lighter and based on the fact that we hook up to docking stations when we get home with larger monitors,,,I have the 2005fpw it seems that the 600m may be a better choice if you need to take it with you. Both are great machines and we have had no problems with them. I have upgraded my memory to 1gb while she has 768. C an't go wrong with either one in my opinion.
