I have 160 gig drive, using Hiren CD> acronis disk director i merged all partition and created 3 NTFS drives and install vista on one of them and they work fine..
The problem is that when i press dell MD button i still boot to the media direct but it eventuallt give me BSoD..
WTH? where is it booting from..i totally reconfigure my HDD including 2.5 gig utility partition and the 10 gig back up...its very annoying b/c if i accidentally press it its disaster. anybody know how to remove or disable it?

media direct is useless crap....congratulations on removing it.....i donno positions of button on the 1530.....but how come do u "accidentally" press the media direct button......media direct is made to boot from a separate hdd partition........if u remove it ,it will just show the md screen stored in the bios and look for the partition........if it does not find the partition it will boot on to next partition....c: and boot windows from it......dell ppl say that pressing the media direct button times causes media direct to corrupt the windows installation........so avoid pressing the button.......i have removed media direct the first day i got my machine and havent "accidentally" pressed it even once......so try to avoid the urge of pressing it and trying to look what is beyond it.....maybe it has caused some corruption on windows...... thats cause of the bsod .......... however there is nothing to worry if u dont press the media direct button

Replace 'Y' with the number of the partition you want the Power button to boot (in my case, it's 2 ), and replace 'Z' with the partition you want to boot if the MD button is pressed (in my case, Suse 10.3 is installed at partition 4). so I put

    Code:
    E:\dellkit\rmbr.exe DELL 2 4
Now you should get to GRUB when you hit the MediaDirect button when the computer is off. You'll see the MediaDirect background for a short time and then GRUB will appear.

Finally, once that's working, reset the power button so it boots Windows directly. Boot from the Vista install CD and click Repair when the option comes up. Then click the option for command line, and type in the following:

    Code:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
Now Windows should be booting directly when you press the power button.
