Hey guys, I just got my Dell Inspiron 1720 last night and so far I can say it's nothing but spectacular. It took about 10 mins to get it out of the box, turned on, get vista ready, delete bloatware, and I was checking my facebook. Below are my specs and personal ratings of the laptop
SYSTEM COLOR Jet Black
Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1920 x 1200)
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667
160GB SATA Hard Drive
Keyboard (9/10): The keyboard is very easy to type on, easy on the fingers and very quite. The only downside is that the keys are a tad smaller than your standard desktop computer
Sound (7/10): For Laptop speakers the sound is qutie good. It's loud enough to crank up music to a respectable level, though if you really want to blast it, I recommend buying a pair of speakers for the sound boost and a bass boost.
Battery (8/10): On Idle the battery life lasts about 5hrs 30 mins, during high performance you can expect about half of that, not too shabby if you ask me. One downside of having the 9-cell battery was it pops out the back slightly, I've heard many complaints about this, but personally I don't mind, it's only about an inch and you know what, I'll take the extra battery life so I say go with the 9-cell.
Gaming (N/A): So far all I have played are old games on my lappy, Starcraft/Broodwars, and conflict global terror an older FPS. Both run great, I didn't have to turn down the res or anything and they are so much fun to play on the 17'' screen. I'm not sure how newer games will work, but I'll check those out in a few weeks.
Appearance (9/10): Overall the appearance of the laptop pwns. The screen is freakin rediculous, remember now I went for the 1920 x 1200, the keyboard looks amazing, the only problem I would say is the largeness of it, makes it look like an old laptop.
Wireless card (10/10): I had no trouble finding a signal and connecting to the internet, it's very user friendly and fast to connect.
Performance (10/10): Last night I was on the web downloading all kinds of programs, from Limewire to Daemon tools, I had about 8 tabs open and all of them ran smoothly and quickly, god bless the T7300 Duo Processor
Touchpad (6/10): It's a very small touchpad compared to what I used to use, I just pluged in my mouse though and that problem was fixed, but if you're on the road or on a plane, or just want to do some web surfing on the couch, the small touchpad takes awhile to get used to.
Overall (8.5/10): I have heard many complaints on the size and wieght of the laptop. I wieghed mine yesterday on my digital scale and it came out wieghing 8.5 pounds. I know this is heavier than most laptops but I mean come on, only by 2 pounds or so. It's not difficult to carry around at all unless you're maybe 6 years old and 2 extra pounds is too heavy for you. The bad thing about the size was, it didn't fit in the backpack I got for it so I guess I'll be going with a messenger bag instead. Overall I highly recommend this laptop to anyone, it's just a very well rounded laptop, good for gaming and all your other needs.

Grats! Enjoy your new computer, can't wait to get mine!
-
the reason i didn't metion CPU whine is because i don't know what that means, lol. Does it mean computer noise? Cuz it's pretty quite unless you are doing some heavy gaming or something on it. I havnt tried using the headphones yet
