First of all id like to say "hello" to everyone, as ive just registered with this forum.
My Studio17 turned up last week and basically ive just been getting used to my new toy, trying out wireless etc.
Anyways in the last two days I decided to see what games the machine, and Vista, would run.
Nearly everything runs fine, except, that upon loading any game, when vista goes to a black screen, I get this tiny blue dot imprinted on the right side of the screen.
Dont get me wrong its barely noticeable, but I personally feel that it just shouldnt be there.
Is this a problem worth solving or am I over reacting a bit?.

Sounds like you have a stuck pixel on your screen. You're within the return policy so I would suggest you call Dell and return it and order a new one.

Thankyou very much for the response.
I've just learned that there is a Dell Outlet not far from me in the south east uk, so next week I shall take it there and ask them to have a look for me.
I'm very dubious about returning my laptop to dell straight away, as I can almost picture them sending it back saying sorry, but we cant find anything wrong with it.

p.s looking into it a bit more on other forums it looks like someone has been overclocking my gfx card, as certain games i play graphics are quite choppy.
Is there a way i can tweak settings to increase resolution, without worrying about overheating the card?.

If games are playing choppy, increasing your resolution is the last thing you want to do. That will only slow down performance even more. Also, I'm not sure how you gather that someone's been overclocking your card.

You are within your rights to return your notebook to Dell for a refund within 7 days of delivery in the UK. You could then order another one.

After 7 days, you are pretty much stuffed.

It does indeed sound like it may be a dead or stuck pixel. When you power your machine up, press the Fn button at the same time as the power button. This will launch some diagnostics. At the end of these diagnostics is a display test. Can you still see the blue pixel during these tests?

The reason I ask this, is that it rules out any windows display drivers which could also be causing the issue - however unlikely this may seem.

Dell has a policy on the number of dead and stuck pixels before they will replace a display. I can't recall how many this is, but it is certainly more than one - so your only other option, if it bothers you that much, would be to get a new display.
