I am curious as to whether there has been a HUGE production delay in regard to the new e1505 models.

I placed an order on 3/21 and have yet to see it charged to my account or get passed the initial pre-production stage. Is it normal for dell to take over 5 days before noticing that you've placed an order?

that just gives us time to cancel our orders if a better deal or coupon, rebate or new better feature for the e1505 to come along...maybe they wabt us to cancel?

Normally there are delays with the new machines especially since these are dual core. They are getting alot of orders for them, and are probably running out of stock.

There could be the possibilty that something is wrong with order (maybe credit card didn't authorize Dell to do the purchase, etc). I would call dell or chat with them, just to be on the safe side.

    :(

i've been trying to chat w/ support, but they say my problem is qualified for chat purposes or I need to try small business or something.

    which doesn't work. :(

and I have no idea what number to call.
GRR!!! i don't want to cancel, that $750 off was such a good deal!

The main phone number in the US is : 1-800-624-9897

I'm not sure why support isn't working. You have to connect to their sales support and not tech support, but I don't get why they would be telling you to go to small business.

yeah i had a huge problem with chatting - and i am going to tell you - they will tell you aNYTHING to get you off the phone or off the chat screen even thuogh they all sound so nice (most of the time) i have called 5+ times and chatted well over 10+ times and no 2 people have ever given me the same answer . one promised me a 100 dell coupon and it never came into my email...they give me email address to "write" so they can personally take care of it and it never happens... but if you want to call them try this number-

1-800-624-9897 ext 7266966 it takes you to customer care then keep pressing to go 4 or 3 to get help that is not offered in the voice menu...

    hope it helps

i am still waiting on my laptop and i am like you - dont want to cancel cause it is a good deal and i cant find another laptop anywhere as good for that price - and they have already cahrged the credit card - so i know its not a money issue - at least on their side

My E1505 is finally, today, "in production". I ordered mine on 3/21, probably the same day as most people b/c of the availibility of the x1300 and x1400 then. Here's hoping they can beat their estimate of a shipping date of 4/12, but I'm not holding my breath :)

The Radeon cards themselves may well be the cause of the delay.

I ordered a 1505 with an integrated 950 GPU Thursday morning (3/23), and it shipped yesterday. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow morning. (Wow.)

When I was ordering I tried about 20 configurations before deciding, and only the GPU made any difference in projected ship date.

I'm in the same boat.. ordered on Mar 21 with the x1400 gpu. Estimated ship date is 4/12 - my order just entered the "In Production" phase.

Also, did anyone notice that the 7200rpm drives are no longer an option on the e1505. I wonder if these hd's may be causing a delay too...

DELL reads these boards..for sure..as soon as i posted you can get 667Mhz 1 gig ram sticks for cheaper in the "DELL parts" area the next day they dont offer that anymore..so we have to stick with the 533 more expensive ram upgrade when we buy our E1505's whats up with that..stinkers i swear

amways yah the reps at dell on there phone and chat line when you have a question they cant answer will drop you..i was hung up on 1 times and when i tried to ask the same question on there chat line i was disonected 3 times...they hate questions which make them loose money if you figured out a deal they dont want you to buy on dell...thats the vibe in my opinion that i got from them....Good product though

I thought the same thing. . . about them hanging up, or dropping the chat, but they dont, they are actually transferring you to a different person to chat with. At least, thats how it happened for me.

I am one more buyer in the same boat. Bought 3/22 and have eta of 4/12..... and finally went into pre-production today. Based on some earlier posts in this thread, maybe I should have skipped the x1400. I certainly am no gamer (I doubt freecell counts), but had understood from general reading (I did read quite a bit before buying) that Vista's 3D features would benefit from a dedicated gpu. People who clearly know much more than I have posted here that unless your a gamer, there is little benefit. So I may have wasted part of my rebate.

same here for the boxing stage. I think I read somwhere that it is when they ship the laptop from malasyia. whatever the case, it looks like they'll beat the estimated delivery time. i'm hoping to get mine before the weekend of the 8th so I can play all weekend :)

Same is the case with me. I book it on 23rd. It reached boxing on 29th. DOnt know how long it makes us wait. :(.

I read somewhere in this form that wait period in boxing stage will be 2-3 days.

Let us know when they ship yours....

    Good luck everyone.

Congrats. Dell likes to "over-deliver" but putting longer dates and then you get them before hand. That way people are like...wow they rushed the order to me.

This causes alot of customers to come back to Dell because of the service. :p

Look at how many people ordered a E1505 on 3/21-3/22, and this is just one forum! Imagine how many people actually ordered one on the same day

I ordered an e1505 for my daughter on 3/22 with the x1400 graphics card, and it appears it will be here by the end of the week 4/7. Not a bad wait at all, I feel. :D It's a wonder they can get anything built and still make $ from what I read around here about all the cancelled orders and returns just because everybody is trying to save a buck!

Wow it only takes them 3 weeks to build and ship a unit. . . i mean, with such blazing speed such minor details can be forgiven right?!

I dont even have my laptop yet, and I already regret buying from dell and will never do so again

Boxing took 4 business days - Transit to local carrier has take 3 business days - preproduction was 4 business days. . . . then, if they EVER manage to get it to the carrier, its 5 business days until I recieve it. . . and I will NOT be expecting my AC adapter. I dont want to set my hopes or expectations TOO high. So from today, its only. . . I'd guess, 9 business days before I get to use my laptop! Or I could have ordered one anywhere else and already be happily using it. . . .man I am an idiot

Count yourself lucky... Mine arrived today, had a couple minor issues, but also has a vertical row of pixels always on...

    - Called customer care... told i need to talk to hardware support... transferred and hung up on.

    - Finally reach Hardware support... spend 20 minutes explaining to the barely speaks english guy what the problem is... he keeps thinking it was a cracked screen... sheesh. Finally he notes my account that I need an exchange and tells me i need to talk to customer care... transferred and hung up on.

    - Call back customer care and am told that since hardware support didnt go thru the right troubleshooting steps they will not allow an exchange... Yell loudly at the barely speaks english chick and she puts me on hold to research it... finally am told it will be exchanged and ill get my replacement in 7-10 days. of course they never sent me an email about that last conversation so I fear ill have to call them again before too long.

    Ahhhhhh!

God....I am sooo scared when my laptop arrives. Instead of it being a joyous occasion its going to be the biggest nerve racking experience I've had finacially. I'm 18 years old and have saved up for a long time for this laptop, and have chosen it as big investment for college, I hope i dont wind up regretting buying this thing.....

I would suggest that you need to relax a little. I ordered an e1505 with the x1400 for my daughter on 3/22 and it's on the delivery truck for tomarrow. That's only 2 weeks total, not bad considering its made a journey half way around the world. :) Much better than when I ordered a Sony Vaio from Best Buy in January. It was shown in stock and scheduled to ship in two days. Then it was backordered for two weeks. Then it was backordered indefinitely, and when I e-mailed to complain they simply cancelled my order the next day! I wasted a whole month in this mess with Best Buy and ended up with nothing. The only good thing that came about was it dealyed everything long enough that now I'm getting the duo core processor. :D

One thing to remember about these internet forums is that you really don't get a representative sample of users. Mostly you get a few people who, many times with good reason, have some kind of a complaint to vent about some problem they're experiencing. However, you rarely hear from the hundreds (or thousands?) of satisfied customers because they are happily using their machines instead of complaining on the internet. Can you imagine how many of these machines Dell must sell in a day, and how many complaints you read here? I'd suggest it's a small percentage. Usually in these types of businesses world anything greater than a 4% hardware problem rate would be considered high. But of course you could end up in that small percentage. :(

Dave put it well. The complaints you hear are for the most part a very vocal minority I would assume. On a side note I ordered my E5015 last night about 930pm and it is in the boxing stage rite now. So figuring 3 days at "boxing" and another 3 or 4 for shipping and it should be here in less then 10 days.

How long did it take from the boxing process to delivery?
I ordered mine saturday(4/1) afternoon, checked my order status on yesterday morning and it's in the boxing process(still).
Does anyone have an idea when I might receive this?
My estimated shipping date is 4/13~4/17 but I heard it usually arrives earlier

Got mine today. it has the wsxga+ screen, 7600rpm drive, and x1400. no problems such as bad pixels in my preleminary check - i dont think ill look too hard though. noticed that the font was set to 120 default. kinda wierd. build quality seems good to me considering the price. didnt notice and shimmer/sparkle. im happy with it, its no fujitsu, but it looks good enough. The dell desktop grafix suck so its hard to tell much.

also - battery life at 90% is rated at over 5 hours with the nine cell and x1400. not sure how accurate that is though.

Let me get this straight. The dell E1505 is registering a 5 + hour life even with the x1400? I was expecting 4 hours, and that was with me crossing my fingers. This is a great development for me if I understood you right!
