So now that i solved more or less or made less frequent the crashes now there is a problem that whenever i press the front media buttons the computer all except for the mouse freezes completely and requires a restart. Do you think reinstalling quickset will fix this or is there something else?

Let me help you with your posting and maybe you will get some help with your problem.

What was the problem you solved and how did you solve it?

What were exactly happened when your computer crashed before and what were you doing when the crashes happened previously?

When you are pressing the media buttons on the front of your laptop, what program are you trying to control with the buttons??? iTunes, Winamp, Quicktime....DVD software, WIN MCE????

What was the last software that you installed before you had problems before and have you installed software recently? If so, what software?

Have you contacted Dell to try and get help with your laptop?

Have you tried restoring your laptop using the restore partition that came preinstalled on your hard drive?

If you are hard set on reinstalling the Dell Quickset software, I would highly recommend completely uninstalling the software, restarting your system and then reinstalling the software.

You also might think about taking a little bit more time in describing the problem you are having with your laptop. Rereading your posting for content would also help you to see that its almost impossible to discern what your problem is from what you have posted here.

I am not 100% sure what the problems are as well, but from my own understanding that you are having media application issues. Well, my D620 used to freeze on me every time I run Win DVD. After contracting Dell, they recommended a RAM upgrade from 512MB to 1GB, and guess what? The problem went away. I am not suggesting you do the same, but it worked for me.

Thanks for the replies. I had to do quite a bit of stuff to get everything fixed up. First of all i made sure no programs started up when i booted. I narrowed it down and found that Ik8fangui was making my computer freeze on boot.

I solved the button prob by reinstalling the Sigmatel audio drivers. That's the second time they've corrupted so i don't know what the problem is....

I now no longer have freezing problems.

Thanks to all who helped me out.

I hate to bring this back to the top but I just have to wonder about your diagnosis and fix.

If you narrowed the problem down to Ik8fangui (temp monitor) as the offender in all of your problems...why would you reinstall Sigmatel audio drivers when they have nothing to do with Ik8fangui.

If Ik8fangui is making your computer freeze on boot...I would have to wonder if it may be causing you other problems.

Software does not just "corrupt". Normally the problem can be found in a software conflict within your system. If your sure you installed your Ik8fangui and Sigmatel audio drivers then I would look and see if you have any conflicting software installed. I would look at any audio and video codecs you may have installed and also check any other fan controllers or temp monitors you may have.
