    Hello:

Yesterday, I decided to configure my dream 1520 rig from various links to the Dell website. I often wondered do these various sites all lead to the same price? Or are some links better to use than others and offer a better price if you shop that way? The only way to know was for me to open up an Excel spreadsheet and start plugging in the numbers that the website showed. Because I have never seen anyone attach an Excel Workbook to a thread, I will simply attach a picture my Excel workbook for your review. Please let me know if you cannot view the picture. I will try another way for you.

Here are some comments from my analysis:

    0) My analysis was done on 8/19/2007. These are the prices at that time.

    1) In all cases, I never applied any discount coupons. Coupons may or may not lower these prices but I did not want to make my determination on coupons.

    2) This analysis is based on US Prices

    3) Note, the my AAA configuration is for 2 Year Warranty and not 3 Years like all the other sites offer

    4) I know some of my selections may seem odd to you but there is a reason why I picked them. But that is really not the point of this..it was simply to see which gave me the best pricing for my rig.

It seems like shopping from www.dell.com/aug which was listed on the back of this months Dell catalog yielded the best prices.

Shopping from a link provided in the Dell Coupons section on www.notebookreview.com actually led to the highest price (again no coupons were applied).

Then, I noticed that all magazine ads (Parade using www.dell.com/parade and Entertainment Weekly magazine www.dell.com/eweekly) in my analysis lead to the exact same pricing. These were slightly better than shopping right from www.dell.com but not as good as going to www.dell.com/aug

I hope my analysis is helpful for future buyers. And I realize the Dell pricing changes all the time so whatever happened yesterday, 8/19/2007, has no bearing on what will be the case in the future.
