Its obvious peeps. Can't you see what Dell is doing? Let me enlighten you.

Dell is loading all the best of current gen into the Studio now except for gfx card.
Dell is not going to release an XPS that is only going to be better than the Studio because of gfx card obviously. Instead, Dell is going to patiently wait for Montevina's release to announce and release the new XPS refresh/replacement laptops. This way, the XPS laptops will be modern with totally up to date Montevina technology coupled with the 9000 series gfx cards, illuminated keyboard, etc. Whereas the Studio will be stuck with the current gen. Obviously the design will change of a bit as Montevina has a 25% smaller motherboard that the Santa Rosa, meaning sleeker form factor.

After a while, Studio may switch to Montevina probably a month or two after, though once it switches over to montevina, its configuration options such as processor will not be as high as the new XPS line.

It may seem like Studio is almost replacing the XPS in everything except for the GFX card, though that is just because Dell knows that the current Santa Rosa tech will be going out the door and it will be a while before the new Montevina XPSs will roll out. I'm pretty sure they originally had planned for Studio to be a Montevina laptop, but couldnt do it with the delay. Because XPS will take so long to release, they need something that Back to School students can drool over until then and basically tricking people into thinking that, it is the best notebook and best valued to buy.

Just wait till August, and you will see things starting to make sense as to why Dell did the way it did.

Sure you may have other thoughts and takes as to what Dell is doing, feel free to provide any thoughts of your own.

    Thank you captian obvious :p

For you people who are lazy to read. Basically in one sentance (which this post could have been in) "XPS is not being replaced by Studio, Studio is just a new line and XPS will have montevina and 9XXX nvidia gpu"... I think this has been widely known since the release of studio.

But the 8600m gt won't be beat by the 9000 series will it? I'd say they all perform about the same

Some... not all of the 9 series... the 9500m GS = 8600m GT, hence the 9650m GT > 8600m GT ;)

I think eventually the Studio's simple marketing names may carry over to the XPS and Inspiron lines. For example, the XPS M1530's successor may be called the XPS 15.

    Inspiron 15, Studio 15, XPS 15.

The main differences between them I would guess would be the graphics. Your probably talking lowend onboard or 9200/9300 series Nvidia on the Inspiron 15, midrange HD3450 on the Studio 15, and high-midrange 9600/9700 series Nvidia graphics on the XPS 15. I do not think that the XPS M1530's successor will be a huge improvement, it will probably be more evolutionary then revolutionary.

This of course all just speculation, but I think it's in Dell's best interest to go the simple naming route with their whole line. The simple name marketing strategy has worked wonderful for Apple.

the xps line, if it stays... most likely, will always feature superior support to that of the inspirion and studio lines... from what i've seen so far, the xps line currently holds a $100 premium over studio.

I don't think anyone thought they would release new stuff before Montevina. It would be pointless to do so.
