I am seriously looking to purchase a Dell 1530 system within the next month or so. The setup that I have selected will cost about $1800 (everything included) from Dell online.
I was fine with this price, until I poked around this site and the American Dell site and found that the same rig would only cost about $1300 in the US - this is mostly due to the 30% coupon available right now. Boy, I sure could use that $500 savings (who couldn't?).
I've poked around this and other forums and it seems like this level of deals are never available from Dell for Canadian customers. What a shame. Does anyone know of anything that has or can be done to receive a similar price north of the border? I am seriously considering finding somewhere in the US to have the system shipped and smuggling it over the border myself (I only live about 2 hours away). Is this a legitimate route? Does anyone have any less... shady... suggestions?

For that price range you may want to check out the Sager NP8660 over at xoticpc.com since they sell both us and canada so they have same price for both and you get a better price since the canadian dollar is far stronger.
Smuggling it over the border is a bad idea as if they find out it was new you will be taxed as well as you haveing to pay for the gas to get over and back. -
Correct me if I am wrong, but Dell's complete care warranty is also international if I purchase at least 3 years.
Secondly, when looking at the transfer of warranty on the Dell website, it seems to include the option of transferring it to other countries.
Logically, wouldn't it be possible to make the purchase in the US, buying it and then transfer it to your own country of use so as to obtain coverage?
If you're Canadian, it might be cheaper to check out Eurocom, rather than xotipc. -

Thanks for the suggestion to check out Eurocom. I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but the system I checked out as looking similar to the M1530 (the M860TU Montebello) looks like it will work out to about the same price as the Canadian M1530 if I match the specs. If this is the case, I'd just go with the Dell.
I am starting to contemplate having the laptop shipped to the states, going down for a weekend with an empty laptop bag (can combine it with a small vacation I was planning anyway), and returning that way. -

I'm pretty sure DELL will ask for an american billing address if you purchase with dell.com.
I'm from Canada and I'm in your situation too. -
I didn't notice the GPU, but taking another look at it I'm still uncertain about Eurocom. Because the GPU is not really a top concern of mine, I'm still likely to go with the Dell because of good previous experiences with them, good reviews, I like the form factor of the M1530, etc. etc.

If you have family in the states you can always have it ship to their place, and then when it ships go down there for a "vacation" and then bring it bak

Taxes in Canada are way too high. X_X
Thats a big part of the reason for the huge differences in price.
American prices vs. Canadian prices
