for school and internet, both are good. seek the one that have better price.
people say that the core 2 duo have better battery performance. if you are going to use battery most of the time, then it's the best choice.

Either is fine, I prefer intel, but why did you write that with all words starting with capital letters?

i have a turion x2 at 1.6 ghz and i've seen my friends with c2ds and they are noticeably faster in some aspects. itunes runs and encodes faster, web browsers have no difference. vista, when i had it, was a little slower on the turion than on core2s. all in all, turion's are a little slower, but it doesn't matter in everyday tasks. upgrading the memory gets you more everyday results.

I think that the battery life on the turion chips are terrible.
I am very disappointed in it.
Performance is fine, or at least close enough that it's probably a mindgame if I think that the turion might be a bit slower than a core 2 duo.

Purely from a performance perspective, for internet and general school work, there won’t be any noticeable difference between the two. You will, however, notice a difference in battery performance and most likely operating temperatures. Unless the price difference is like $300 or more, I don’t recommend a Turion X2.

With a 6 cell battery,Turion could make the battery last around 2 hours. Intel's chip can pull it to 2hour and 34minutes. My friend's notebook vs my spare one, about the same specs but different brand.
