I was browsing the Dell website and, just for kicks, was configuring an almost maxed out XPS 1530 when I realized that when configuring the higher-end base model, you get $669 instant savings!! see images 1 and 2

The website says the offer ends January 31, 2008 (image 3), but Dell tends to change their coupons/discounts day-by-day, week-by-week. So, if you're on the fence about ordering an XPS 1530 or not, now seems to be the time. Huge discount + the recent addition of the high res screes = what are you waiting for? :)

I think he meant that they were offering a 200 dollar gift card with the purchase this xps config? The gift card offer expired 12/20.

Dell has had this deal for several days now and it is great. Would be a good time to buy if you're planning on it. I'm shocked that they would do this on a XPS unit as in the past they've been very stingy with giving XPS discounts.

It is not too shocking. Dell is very likely about to release a whole new line of laptops and wants to unload as many of these as possible before early January.

Ack. Now I'm regretting my Vostro [ok, not really, but these XPS discounts have been cuh-razy!]. A similarly configured 1530 costs ~$300 more, but the XPS is:
    - of course, GDDR3 [vs my Vostro's DDR2]
    - 3GB RAM [vs 2GB]
    - T7500 [vs T7300]
    - 7200 RPM [vs 5400 RPM, same capacity -- 160GB]
    - Intel Wireless-n [vs Broadcom g]
    - fingerprint reader [vs none]
    - lighter and just looks cooler!

Although it does come with Vista and it has very slightly worse battery life [basing this on the XPS' review and my Vostro's battery life]. Needless to say, if I hadn't bought my Vostro, I'd be buying this one instead.

Hopefully more reviews on the 1530 come out soon, especially for the higher res screens. Maybe Dell has finally improved quality control?

You can not get the high resolution screen with the $669 deal. Very limited selections. Wait until after the new year.
