I paid approximately $300 for three year accidental damage protection on my Inspiron 2650, and It came in somewhat handy as I sent it in to have a crack in the case fixed on one occasion, and a new keyboard put in on another (after I dumped a full cup of coffee on it). I probably wouldn't have to get a new computer now if I had gotten the 4 year plan -- I have an intermittent keyboard problem, and the case is extremely cracked.
I just bought the Latitude D820 and paid the extra $268 for the accidental damage protection (called Business Mobility something or other).
Am I the only person who thinks its pretty likely that my laptop will suffer some catastrophe in the next 3 years?

4 years warranty is a bit too much. I personally upgrade computers within 3 years. So I only bought 3 years warranty.

I think its a great plan and one reason to buy a dell. One of my dells used by another family member has seen several keyboards and several near complete rebuilds due to spilling. oh and its had a monitor replaced. Lots of work done and lots of money saved. On my other dell I've only had to replace a HD but that right there was $180 at the time it was repaired.
**** happens and even if it doesn't the peace of mind is great
I usually buy four years because I have used mine that long thus far and am going to for another year still yet as long as all goes well (may extend warranty?) -
I did for my PDA phone because it lives a really rough life, and it's small enough I could accidently loose it. The insurance they call it is only $3.00 a month so I figured why not. Besides, once this phone gets beat up and old looking I'll just use the insurance to get a fresh new one.
I didn't for my laptop though, I'm the only person who will ever be touching it and I baby it pretty good. I've never broken or damaged a laptop myself, but it's probably a good option for most people who aren't so careful or may be allowing other to touch it. It's the "other" people on a computer that do the most damage, some people just scare me, I wouldn't want to let them on my computer even under a guest account.
As long as it's always just me on my computer, I never have any problems, ever. -
i got the 3 year completecare. who knows, i could have a massive-ACCIDENTAL-traumatic-laptop-obliterating experience in about, say 3 years...

I got a 4 year warrenty with the dell I just bought, including complete care. I did it mainly because I didn't need a faster processor (1.86 is what I bought) and needed to hit 2k for the 750 off coupon.
I'm probably going to sell the notebook in a few months if there are good deals around christmas and people are silly on ebay paying for stuff. -
I would have bought it if Fl wasn't so dumb about Complete Care. Think it's worth it and with the EPP coupon and rebate, it wasn't so much more money for the peace of mind.

When you're talking about a $4 P.O.S. set of Radio Shack headphones w/ a $10 "replacement plan" (yes, I actually used to work there & yes, some people were actually stupid enough to buy into it), that's one thing, but the thing is that buying a laptop is a major investment, especially if you're paying upwards of $1-3K for it. I've got insurance on my car, renters insurance, health insurance...why wouldn't I have a bit of piece of mind w/ my lappie?
Especially if you've got ankle biters running around (kids or dogs, take your pick ), could save you some big time cash in the long run. -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Turns out Dell doesn't offer accidental protection in Florida. =(
So I don't have it. I don't think your fool for buying it. I've seen accidents take these babies away from there owners. I think it would be worth it to have the protection. -
Same here.
Am I the only person who pays for the accidental damage protection?
